It sounds like there is more to the story. Wasn't he close to LB? Maybe they are cleaning house of the LB loyalists or maybe they let him go and they plan on picking him back up come January once SM is on Suzukis too? OR, maybe I'm reading way too much into it and they just let him go.
From what I hear, the deal came to be because well, Regal probably knew that there was no chance he’s coming back with JSE (does anyone know what is going on with JSE next year? Seriously, I’ve heard everything from coming back with exact same team to Suzuki’s to no San Manuel sponsorship to the team folding completely to James retiring to become a lumberjack. Well maybe I didn’t hear that last one) next year and needed to get his name back out there in front of all the potential team managers for next year. So once the terms of his JSE deal were not able to be met by the team (four nationals), he sought out his release and got it. Although Yamaha was trying to place him back with Valli Yamaha team (can you imagine this happening? Remember Regal-Gate a year ago? I don’t get this crazy, silly sport sometimes) but Kyle and his step-dad Mark went in the BBMX direction.
No matter how it worked out, it’s good to see him back and he rode well to an eighth. That’s the bottom line for Regal and the BBMX team."

He was allowed to quietly seek other opportunities, without fanfare, without any public notifications
It was a very complicated situation.
Just take that for what it is. Don't try and read into it or make things up about it (not directed to any particular person)
That being said, I'll take your word for it. They let him go so he could race the last 4 nationals. Nothing more, nothing less.
It was intentionally done quietly.
That's it. Yamaha did not want to make a big deal about it. That's why there was no PR.
I have to think there is something to the "4 race" thing since Regal would have back racing sooner if he could but he had to wait until the contract terms were not met. This all based on rumor that the L&M deal did include 4 nationals which at one point I am pretty sure that Stewart said they were racing the first 4.
I would think Regal would be a fool to be part of that team again. It was a bad deal all around for him.
