Why do we cling to the 1 Dollar bill so viscously? With an average life span of 18-22 months and a Dollar coin having a life span of 25-30 years, why do we bother with paper bills in such a small denomination?

If it were up to me, I would get rid of all paper money worth less than $10 and replace the 1,2 and 5 dollar bills with coins.

Coins are annoying and they don't fit in my wallet.

Debit and Credit cards have done more to eliminate paper money than coins ever will.

Reminds me of a song.

Less than a yen
Pick up the Peso
Droppin' again
Down to your ankles

Don't believe in banks
Hate to be so Frank

What's a dollar these days?

CHORUS:

Home of the father
Land of the dollar
Givin' it all to the twenty-fifth caller

Home of the father
Land of the dollar
Givin' it all

Us Aussies got rid of the following currency: 1c and 2c* coins and $1 and $2* notes (replaced by $1 and $2 coins). Oh, and we also replaced paper notes with polymer notes - apparently, us clever little Aussies are World leaders in polymer currency technology.

*Yes, we actually had a 2c coin and a $2 note.

Ha ha! A .02?
we have a $2, but it seems to be more of a collectable. Don't see many in circulation, but my kids get one every year at Christmas from thier great grandmother.
