Ancient Aliens

I watched this show last night on the History channel Ancient Aliens . Curious what people think about ancient astronaut theories.

They've been going on about that crap since the 1950's. The TV shows and movies are always the same. Excruciating to watch because they draw it out and at the end, they have no answers, no proof.

If there was some new evidence or something new to say it would be one thing but it is just re-hashing the same old stuff.
As bad as those dumb Ghosthunter shows......every creak or groan is "someone from the other side".....lol.

Good hook for a show though you can basically just put any bullshit theory out there and use some nifty CGI....bam...The Incas were really spacemen!
Another show in the can without ever proving or disproving anything.

I think its ridiculous. If you factor in the size and scope of the Universe, then add in the math of how random Intelligence can occur in this infinite expanse, the likelihood of an intelligence coming here is so remote its probably hard to write down the number.

Secondly, and if an Intelligence evolved to the point of being able to travel across this incalculable distances, they wouldnt waste their time dinking around with amoebas like us. That would be like me driving to Pluto to observe a fungus on a rock. Well, thats a lame analogy, but maybe you get the idea.

The explanation to all this crap they are coming up with on that show is simple. IMHO there have been many different incarnations of humanoids on this planet, who have evolved, thrived and were wiped out by disease, geophysical global changes, meteorite strikes, or fried to a crisp in extreme solar flares eruptions. The incredible things we see today, ie. Baalbeck or Puma Punku, are just stuff that was able to still be around eons after these mass extinctions.

If homo sapien crawled up outta the primordial soup, theres no reason why other, better, incarnations may have been around, did way better than us, and the slate wiped clean before. Many times before.

That makes more sense than someone coming here to prob someone up the pooper.

Same bullshit as the religious gods. Human fabricate what they want to see and try to pawn it off as "truth".

I think it's fascinating how they make up facts and tie it all together. but like steve say's you watch the whole show and it's built up then they say , well we just don't know so make up your own mind.

I'm kinda into this stuff. Not to say I'm convinced, but I'm certainly intrigued.

No matter how far fetched their ideas are, there are some puzzling things in our past the we don't yet understand. What peaks my interest is the technological achievements that we still cannot explain.

I've been to Chitzen itza multiple times and it still blows my mind.

So the Mayans worshiped a "bird" deity. If you stand by "El Castillo", which is what this picture is of, and clap your hands, a perfect bird chirp sound is bounced off in every direction LOUD AS HELL.

"Great Ball Court"

The acoustics in this thing are absolutely UNREAL. You can literally hold a normal-voiced conversation with someone standing at the other end..

Absolutely immaculate architecture.

It's very difficult to see how some of these engineering feats were achieved, and that's why some people are looking toward other possibilities. When you have a perfectly cut single 500 ton block of stone that was meant to have been made and moved with from one location to another, and with tools far more crude than our own... well it's not easy to see how.

Many slaves with many ropes doesn't really work either because they have to apply their combined force effectively and again, it's not easy to see how they could do that. Imo we've either had help from an outside influence or our perceptions of the past and what the ancients were capable off (the technology available) - is wrong.

One example is the giant sculptures alongside the staircases at the Forbidden City in Beijing. Huge slabs of rock, all in one piece. The rock is a type that the nearest quarry would have been a great distance away. Puzzling until you realize that all they had to do was drag them there in winter on ice. Beijing is way up north and winters are harsh up there.

Triple5, Ive been to Chichen itza three times myself.

Hmmm,

I'd say it's hard to speculate what type of technology other life forms might posses. LOL, but seriously. It's hard to think about but life on earth is EXTREMELY young compared to other things in our universe. Think of how much human life has changed in just 500 rotations around the sun. There might be intelligent life with thousands upon thousands of years of head start on us.

What did you think of it? I've been blown away each time.

Sometime during my life I'd like to visit Machu Picchu, I've heard it's another site that is just mind numbing.

Yeah but time is so incredibly relative. Our life span is sooo short, even compared to some other things on this planet. We have a tree that is almost 5,000 years old.

Right now we're just starting to examine actual anti-matter. This discovery has proven to us that there are other dimensions. WTF DOES THAT MEAN?!?! There are things that are so massive that we cannot see them. Try and wrap your head around that.

Who knows what is out there, we may never. I find the shows intriguing also, I just just don't buy it as fact.
Anyone watch Bigfoot Hunter or whatever it is called ? Matt Moneymaker and his team of tweekers looking for "Squatch" . The wife hates me when I have it on.

They'd have to drive to the Vatican pretty fast though. Less than 17 minutes of containment time, but they're getting there.

Good thread! I think the show is awesome, my wife thinks I'm nuts for watching it though.

This is the most mesmerizing place I have seen in my life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borobudur
It is a good read but be sure to check out the whole page and click on the pictures to enlarge. There are some good examples of some of the relief panels at the bottom of the page but nothing that would give you an idea of seeing it in person, both of how many and how large. 2762 relief panels 504 Buddha statues and there are many many statues of creatures guarding the gates ect. I was there once when there was a light rain and it was even more amazing to see the water drainage system work.

Here are a few pics I took at Machu Picchu.

The first one is from Machu Picchu with the mountain Huayna Picchu in the background.

The second one is from the top of Huayna Picchu with Machu Picchu below.

The third is one from the train on the ride to Machu Picchu.

How could you not trust everything this man has to say?

aahhah

So I listen to the Joe Rogan experience podcast pretty often and the other day he has Giorgio Tsoukalos on - the dude is a nut but again, he does bring up some interesting historical 'evidence'.

"Think of how much human life has changed in just 500 rotations around the sun."

TripleFive, I think I know what you mean; and yet, in some respects, human life (read: human character) seems to have changed very little over that time. Some may even suggest that our most primal, at times barbaristic, tendencies have merely just become more sophisticated. In other words, aren't we just simply killing each other with greater efficiency than was possible 500 rotations around the Sun ago?

I agree completely. We're just as animalistic as were thousands of years ago; this will never change. Part of this however is a never ending thirst for knowledge. In a very, very short time frame we've gone from hand written text to the printing press and then on to the internet. From the discovery of the atom to the harnessing of its power. We're now studying matter from DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS.

But you're exactly right; while our potential seems limitless our character has not developed whatsoever.
