after watching the replay of the moto 1 crash that almost decapitated Marvin, I have to ask what the heck was under that white cover to make Barcia's 250 pound motorcycle bounce off it like that? not your typical tough block and in hindsight it seems pretty unwise to have that block that close to the first turn.

Giant haybale. Washougal uses similar in the first turn.

I understand them using them in front of trees, but wouldn't the smaller bales suffice in that corner? They do look nice and are great sponsor billboards, but could be off the track a bit. Barcia hitting that thing head first scared me. I seriously thought he wasn't going to get up... screamed spinal injury right away. So happy he was able to walk away from it.

I'd take that haybale full face over a CRF250 spinning wheel any day.
Just sayin'.

I hope I never have to chose between the two. the #17 bike bounced off that bale like it was a toy. I wonder how much that "giant hay bale" weighed because it didn't seem to move an inch when Barcia hit it.

I can't help but wonder if MX Sports is rethinking allowing those immovable objects so close to the track after this incident.

It wasn't in the first turn, it was the 4th turn, but still, probably not a good thing to have there.

Someone crashed going over the step up up the blvd. Was sitting right there. Landed, went to turn right in the rough stuff and clipped his foot peg on one. Over the bars he went. Haybale didnt budge. Saw it placed over a few cheater lines from years past.

I was about to say, they keep people from cutting and straightening out the track. Gotta respect a big wet haybale. After you've bounced off a couple, you learn to respect them.
