I forgot what website it was on but somewhere you can order all the parts in a kit to outfit your current MX bike. I know they also have it for Honda, not sure about the other brands.

Maybe I am missing something but the price of that bike is 17,000, a new Yamaha R6 is $11,000. Create a stock 600 class. add tires, exhaust, steering damper, frame/engine slider, A sharkskin body to get rid of the headlights is about $900 You would have some work, wiring nuts and removing turnsignals/tail lights.

I have never raced on the track maybe there is more cost to an R6 than I am thinking about. But it would seem to me that an R6 would make a better racebike. The stock class rules could make it for no engine mods.

I think it's neat. No way I'm comin off 17g's for it though. I would guess it's similiar to riding a 125 in mx. A large part of the fun is holding it wfo.

Scottie mentioned in the e-start thread that it was odd seeing someone hop on a ktm and roll out without kickstarting it. I think it'd look goofy as hell watching someone kicking on a sportbike!

Roland sands built a formula 450 for a proposed series, but the AMA rejected it in favour of a 600 lb bike that is no longer sold in the USA.

Definitely don't have the money to buy something like this, but I would love to hear and see how well the bike actually rides. I figure gearing on that thing must be very odd for road racing.

And also odd is that IMO the yamaha looks the best out of the other transformed bikes shown in this thread.

Ha, i like this line

The YZ450GP uses the YZ450F MX bike as a platform and is easily affordable at just $16,625 inc GST

Not sure what GST is, but unless its like .25 US dollars, I don't know many people that find $16k "easily affordable"!

Yes stock 600 is way cheaper but your not getting it on the track for $900 more like 2k. From what I hear the motors don't last that long either. A 450 motor at red line for 25 min. usually =boom. You should be able to race a 600 at the club level for about 2 years before opening it up, you would save on tires though as the bike is a lot lighter.

That made me laugh.... I'm surprised they didn't choose an electric bike.

There was a Moriwaki 250 from the Schwantz school on display a few weeks back and the gentleman who was there with it commented that they have a high rate of rod failure and he was swapping them all out in their bikes before they scattered. Sweet looking little bikes, but I can't imagine a single cylinder 250 lasting too long on a road course at 14,000 rpm. I think they are in the $16,000.00 range.

GST is the tax charged on everything in Australia so those prices are Aussie prices to wheel it off the floor. over here a stock R6 goes for 15-16k then you mod it for racing

lol its funny because the 125gp bikes were making 65 horsepower....and the new 250f gp bikes are making at the most 45....talk about progress..

the 450's can barely stay together on a mx track, much less bouncing off the rev limiter on the pavement, cost effective my ass

Jeez, we get it. You don't like four-strokes.

For the record, I don't think this is a cost-effective way to go racing, and riders are better off with purpose-built bikes.

The only person whoever had a problem with that bike was James, and since he is so out-of-touch with set-up, he didn't know it was just his boots! I heard that guy who now wears James' boots had to decide between those boots and his yz450! hahha I bet more people would like that bike if they tried it than not. I have ridden bikes that I liked and didn't. Although I think the '12 kx450 is an awesome bike, I simply didn't like it! (It might have been my boots though.)

"Easily affordable" in road race terms is completely different than easily affordable for MXer's.

Just track days alone are outrageous in comparison (even though I think MX track fees are underpriced)

Typical track practice day at MX track $25-$30
Typical track practice day fee at road race track $200+

If you're bothered about money then racing any bikes on asphelt is not for you.

In my opinion, these bikes are basically what Moto3 should have been.

Well to start with it's two rounds remaining and from RacerX:
" Factory FMF/KTM's Kailub Russell bounced back from a tough loss last round to secure his fifth win of the season, now sitting within four points of current points leader Paul Whibley in the championship standings."

It's far from over.
