"Hiring interns" Woohoo

It sounds like something that would be fun to do to see some behind the scenes stuff but why not just call it "looking for volunteers."

Aviation is the same... especially the piloting end of the profession. I can't even remember how many times I've been told "Well, it doesn't pay money per se, but you'll get to build hours..."
Yes hello, mortage company... do you accept experience in lieu of actual money for my house payment? No? Shucks.

How do you hire someone, you don't intend to pay? Interesting.

Ill just leave this here. Its the law:

The intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff. The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern; and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded.........

So the interns will need a hired employee serving hot dogs and hamburgers right beside them? And when they are picking up paper an employee will have to be pointing it out? Smile

Or slave....

At least slaves didn't have to pay their own way to get to work.

April 1st came early this year, huh?

A friend of mine was approached to be a transport driver for one of the larger teams a couple years ago. He'd been with FedEx Freight for 20 years in Florida and wasn't doing bad at all for himself. He made big bank there. The team said they'd need him to drive the transporter, hand wash and wax it 2x per week, set up and tear down the awnings, set up the pit area, cook all food and feed the team (food would be paid for by team), help wash bikes after each race, film each practice to let riders watch, and also rent a car (paid by team) to shuttle all team personnel to and from airports and hotels as needed. All for $600 per week.

He ended up going to work driving a transporter for a Nascar team making twice that. He doesn't set up pits, wash bikes, shuttle team personnel, or cook any food. He goes from race to race and washes the truck on the day he gets to each town. And they pay all his health insurance for family coverage. Several times this year, one of the team's drivers paid to fly him home for the weekend during the races to be with family.

Moe proof MX teams want to pay absolutely nothing for their crew members. It's shameful.

Well, I wouldn't really call it ''hiring''...... since you're paying nothing

Not sure that's an internship. At the end what do they get for their efforts ? A journeymen certificate in motocross team operations ? To which there are no jobs ? Better off working for feld setting up venues. They pay their employees.

I guess it would be cool if you were 19, new to the working world and really thought that if you bust your ass you'll land yourself an industry job.

"Help sponsors onsite with promotional items"Wink

This maybe explains the sad state of industry sponsorship.

There are a lot of rules to consider with internships in California. Even more so an unpaid internship. With large corporate sponsors comes larger responsibility. They are also asking someone to do at a minimum five thousand miles of travel if they completed the entire west coast series.
