TICKLE RALLIES LATE FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE TOP-10 FINISH
MT. MORRIS, Pa. (Saturday, June 8, 2013) – A late rally in Moto 2 gave Broc Tickle a 10th-place overall finish in the High Point National at High Point Raceway, his second consecutive top 10 in the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Tickle passed two riders with one lap remaining in the second moto to score an 11th-place finish, matching his finish in Moto 1 earlier in the afternoon.
“There at the end, I think there were a couple of guys who got tired and a couple guys made mistakes,” said Tickle. “I tried to pick a good spot to pass. It was a little difficult to pass today because the way the line developed. It seemed like there was a couple of fast lines and a couple really muddy lines from the rain yesterday.”
Tickle was racing Justin Brayton for 10th-place as the second moto drew to a close but try as he might, couldn’t find a way past his competitor.
“I honestly should have got him in the beginning,” Tickle said. “I had a chance but never made it stick. I tried a couple different lines to try to gain on ‘em and changed my line in some spots to try to make some passes. I couldn’t get that one sealed.”
Tickle claimed the third-place starting position in Moto 1 when he posted the third-best times in the day’s two qualifying sessions.
“Today started off good. I was third in the first practice, third in the second practice and went to the gate third (in Moto 1) so that was really good.” He said. “We didn’t make any changes because obviously it went really well in practice. The first moto, it wasn’t a good start, but I was probably 15th or 16th on the first lap. We went back and forth and then there at the end we got a couple guys. I finished 11th the first moto which was pretty good for where we started. It’s a bit frustrating. It seems like the key this year is to get a good start, put in good laps at the beginning and then settle in and stay consistent because all of us are so close. I mean from fifth to 10th or 11th, the lap times are close.”
Ryan Villopoto scored the overall victory, winning both motos, with Ryan Dungey placing second in both races. Tyla Rattray was credited with third-place.
The 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship heads to Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Md., for Round 5 next Saturday afternoon.
