Rutledge Wins at Hangtown

The gate dropped last Saturday just outside of Sacremento at Hangtown for the AMA National Motocross Opener. While two of the favorites took home wins in the 250 and 450 classes, a surprise winner took the checkered flag in the second moto of the WMX division. Meghan Rutledge piloted her Race Tech supported Kawasaki KX250F to a second moto win during her first ever WMX event.

Fellow Race Tech riders lined the starting gate at Hangtown. Nearly a dozen riders in the 250 and 450 divisions were aboard Race Tech Suspension after qualifying ended. Derek Anderson piloted his Race Tech backed Kawasaki 450F as high as 7th at one point in the first 450 class moto before a goggle failure caused him to drop back to mid-pack. Derek came from behind on the rough track in the second moto to charge from nearly last to inside the top 20 and score valuable championship points.

Ben Lamay was another standout for the Race Tech team. Lamay started way back both motos and charged his way forward into the points the first moto, despite nursing an injured knee from a crash during Supercross.

In the 250 class, Killy Rusk was the standout for the Race Tech team. Killy charged hard all day long in the extremely competitive 250 class to score some points aboard his Race Tech supported Honda CRF250. Just getting inside the top 20 and scoring points is a challenge in this class, and if the Supercross season is any indication, Rusk will continue to improve all season long and challenge for top 10's before the end.

Race Tech would like to congratulate all the riders who qualified for the 40 rider field at Hangtown. Killy Rusk, Jason Potter, Robert Noftz, Derek Anderson, Ben Lamay, Dustin Pipes, Preston Mull, and Meghan Rutledge all proved they are in the top 40 riders in their divisions.

"Hangtown was a great event for us to showcase all the testing and development we've been doing with these privateers. The track was rough and challenging, and for Meghan to take a win over factory some big names on factory bikes as a relatively unknown is definitely something for us to be excited about. We can't thank Terry Hay from Shock Treatment, our Race Tech Center in Australia, enough for allowing Meghan to come over and represent Race Tech in the US series," said Race Tech's Director of Marketing Chris Riesenberg.

Chris continued, "We saw some glimpses of greatness from quite a few of our riders throughout the weekend. I think the results will continue to improve as the series goes on. We're proud of the hard work our team is putting in, it isn't easy to put in two 30 +2 motos against the biggest names in the sport; let alone to pass them and beat them like some of our guys are doing!"

Riders on the AMA National Motocross Tour will head to Round 2 at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, TX.
