Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin wins German MX2 GP in Teutschenthal

The first race was a triumph for Red Plate holder Musquin and due
reward after some ill fortune in Saturday's qualifying race when he got a
nasty bounce from the start gate and had to fight his way to finish
seventh. But on race day, Marvin put that behind him and while teammate
and pole sitter Jeffrey Herlings took the holeshot, he had Marvin on his
wheel at the first corner and it wasn't long before he seized the lead.
The French rider went on to dominate the rest of the race and move even
further ahead in the standings on his way to defending his MX2
championship.

 
Marvin had to play second fiddle to Germany's wunderkind Ken
Roczen in the second moto who rocketed into the lead in the early part
of the race and dominated right up to the finish line. Musquin did admit
at the end of the race that he had felt tired in the second moto but
his score card of seven GP victories out of eight so far run this season
is proof enough of his dominant riding in his second year with the Red
Bull KTM Factory Racing Team.

 
Marvin Musquin: "I didn't win the second heat but I
did win the GP and that's the most important thing. The track is a
little different from last year and it was a bit heavy. Now I will go
home and train in the sand to prepare for the next race and like always,
I will try to do my best. I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was great to
hear the people here in Germany cheering for me. It was great in France
last time because that's my home GP but I thought it would be different
here in Germany!"

 
It was a mixed weekend for the factory team's youngest rider,
15-year-old Jeffrey Herlings. He was the fastest qualifier and had a
very good start in race one but ultimately had a DNF. He then managed to
pick up 13 points in race two to add to his championship tally.

 
Jeffrey Herlings: "I've had three bad race weekends
now so I just have to fight back hard and try to get out of the hole,"
he said. "It was very good for me on Saturday. I won the
qualification and I felt good going into today, maybe a little too good.
I had a good start but then I got passed by Marvin and I couldn't stick
with him. Then I had some technical problems and couldn't finish. I
crashed a couple of times in the second moto, which was my own fault but
I did manage to get back from eleventh to eighth so I felt good about
that."

 
Shaun Simpson, third member of the factory team also said he
struggled with the track and "was not 100% this weekend."

Shaun Simpson: "I took two good starts. I was in the top
three in the first race and I got the holeshot in the second. In the
first race I should have finished sixth but I made a mistake and
finished ninth. I hit a patch of water on the track and I crashed. I got
the holeshot in the second race. I tried to follow Ken Roczen but it
wasn't possible then Marvin and Osborne passed me. I did have some
problem with the start clip on the front fork. A stone came up and hit
it and it got jammed. I lost about six second with that."

 
KTM's Jordi Tixier stays top of the rankings in EMX 125

Young Jordi Tixier, who continues to shine in the EMX 125 class on
Sunday had to settle for second overall in the GP classification after
fellow French rider Jason Clement scored a 2-1 result ahead of Tixier's
1-3 on the German circuit. It was the first time that Tixier had not
topped the podium since the beginning of the season and he does retain a
handsome lead in the overall standings. This is the inaugural season
for this junior class.
