Other than Shawn Maffenbeier recording his first MX2 National career win on the strength of 2-1 motos, there were few surprises at the final round of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Walton, Ontario on Sunday.
As expected, Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge Kawasaki Austin Politelli secured the MX2 Championship with a win in the first moto. Politelli did not start the second moto and settled for seventh overall on the day.
Cementing the top-three overall podium were KTM’s Jesse Wentland, who went 4-2 to claim second place and Devil Lake MX Kawasaki’s Joshua Clark, who snared third with 3-3 moto results.
In the MX1 title hunt, Red Bull/Fox/Royal Distributing/KTM’s Cole Thompson recorded his second MX1 overall victory of the season. Thompson, who joined the tour at Round 5, cleared the task with 1-2 motos.
Second overall went to Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha/Motovan.com’s Bobby Kiniry. Despite finishing sixth in the first moto, the New Yorker cleared the task by nailing down a win in moto 2.
Sealing the top-three overall podium were Thompson’s Red Bull KTM teammate Tyler Medaglia, who recorded 3-4 motos.
Meanwhile, Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe, who had already wrapped up the MX1 Championship at Round 8, snared fourth overall on the strength of 2-5 motos.
