MOTOCONCEPTS OFF TO DAYTONA BY WAY OF ST. LOUIS . . .‏

Temecula, CA.
Before a record-setting crowd of 60,000 cheering Supercross fans at the St. Louis, MO Edward Jones DomeMotoConcepts Racing (MCR) saw their best results this season in the Lites class after a stellar ride by Jake Canada.

St. Louis was the ninth race and marked the halfway point in the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series as well as the third stop on the East Coast tour.  MCR fielded three riders at the event; Mike Alessi and Jeff Alessi representing in the Supercross class while the Supercross Lites class featured the up-and-coming Jake Canada.

Canada looked very good during timed qualifying, nailing the 7th fastest
time in the Lites class, while clocking within a fraction of a second
of the leaders.  Mike Alessi completed qualification in 15th with Jeff rounding out the team as the 25th fastest in the Supercross class.

In
his heat, Jake Canada got a good jump on the gate and came through the
first turn in the top five.  He then made some quick passes to put
himself into 3rd position, where he finished after withstanding a furious last lap charge from Factory KTM star and German wunderkind Ken Roczen.

The Alessi brothers both found themselves in Heat #2 of the Supercross class.  Mike was putting in a great effort behind Ryan Villopoto and Justin Brayton before
the race was red-flagged and restarted.  Mike didn’t gate quite as well
for the restart and ended up transferring to the main in 6th place.  Meanwhile, Jeff Alessi went down hard and was out for the rest of the evening.

In the Lites main, Jake Canada started well, rounding the first lap in 5th place.  After chasing down Jeff Gibson, the runner-up in the recently completed AMA Arenacross series, Canada made a pass into 4th position on lap three of the 15 lap race.  He battled the next 8 laps with Rockstar Suzuki’s Blake Wharton, eventually dropping back to 5th.  A slight mistake on the penultimate lap allowed Darryn Durham to slip by, leaving Jake Canada to finish in 6th place – a career best for Jake and a season best for the team.

As
the gate dropped in the Supercross main, Mike Alessi experienced a
slight problem with his motor that affected his power delivery,
relegating him to a mediocre start in the back of the pack.  After
putting in a several high-quality laps, Mike cracked the top ten.  It
was not to be though, for as the race wound down, the engine problems
worsened and he was forced to back off the throttle, finishing in 13th position.

Look for Mike Alessi to be back with a vengeance this coming weekend as the series heads down to the legendary Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, FL.  At the series halfway point, Mike Alessi is in 10th overall in the standings while Jake Canada is in 6th place, both only a good race from jumping up several positions.
