Newbury Park, CA. (January 7, 2008) – MDK/Wonder Warthog Racing (WWR) team captain, Heath Voss, 8th in last year’s Supercross Championship, kicked off the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series with a solid 14th place finish at Anaheim Stadium on Saturday night.
Wind, rain and a slippery track tested the skills of the 10 riders in the DeCal Works Hog Haven Privateer Support Program. The rider line up this week was Heath Voss, Ryan Abrigo, Jiri Dostal, and Manu Rivas in the premier class, with Daniel Blair, Charles Castloo, Ramon Guzman, Tye Hames, Mike Horban, and Kevin Urquhart riding Lites bikes.
8 riders worked their way through the afternoon qualifiers and into the night show, as MDK/WWR riders comprised 10 percent of the total field, a feat never before accomplished in series history.
The 2004 World Supercross Champion, Voss, riding for MDK, U.S. Air Force, Mastercraft, No Fear, Cytomax, and Smooth Industries, fought bad starts and muddy conditions all night long on his Honda CR450F. Now living in Texas and entering his 13th season as an AMA professional, the native Minnesotan surely is a force to be reckoned with, as the series moves on to the warmer and drier confines of Chase Field, in Phoenix, AZ.
The pit setup was impressive as all nine riders under the huge DeCal Works tent had individual backdrops and the full support of the MDK/WWR resources.
Said Steve Bauer, President and Media Officer of WWR, “Our goal at WWR has always been to provide the best and hardest working privateers with the resources and infrastructure they need to make it to the next level. With the help of MDK, Decal Works, Smooth Industries and our other sponsors, we're able to do just that. A special note of thanks goes out to Terry Emig of the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute...the MMI students and alumni that he provides us at each round of the series are a key to our success”
Congratulations to Chris Blose of Fun Center Suzuki on his awesome 9th place finish in the Lites main event! Chris was a pleasure to have on the WWR team last season and seeing our riders excel for other teams is what we live for!”
