Rich Burgett to be honored at Washougal National!
Merced, Calif. ~ July 19, 2011: The Legends &
Heroes of Motocross Tour will honor Rick Burgett duringthe Lucas Oil AMA
Pro Motocross Championship at Washougal this Saturday. Burgett was a
factory Yamaha rider during the brand's mono-shock glory days, riding
alongside heroes like Hannah, Glover and Bell. He notched the 1978 AMA
500cc National Championship at a time when the 500s where still the
premier class.
“Rick
Burgett was often called the "Lumberjack" because of his strength and
size and was always most at home on the powerful Yamaha open class works
bike. His team mate, Bob Hannah, would occasionally challenge him to a
wrestling match; Burgett would stuff him into a corner of the hotel
room. Burgett called Hannah "a little fighting squirrel!" Off the
track, Burgett was friendly to all! On the track he was feared!” states
Tom White of the Early Years of Motocross Museum.
“Rick was one of those hard charging champs that came out to the rugged
northwest to compete at the national level. His accomplishments on and
off the track are a credit to the sport. We are excited to be honoring
Rick this weekend “states Alex Moroz, general managing partner of the
tour. “This is a great opportunity for the fans to stop by the Legends
& Heroes of Motocross Moto display and say hi to the champ” he adds.
Congrats Rick, for a job well done!
