AGUEDA (Portugal), 9 June 2011 – After a thrilling weekend in Saint Jean d’Angely, the FIM Motocross World Championship travels to Agueda, Portugal, to celebrate the sixth Grand Prix of the season. The Portuguese track will also host the third round of the UEM EMX-2 series. Clement Desalle kept the red plate even being third in Saint Jean d’Angely. Second in the Championship is Antonio Cairoli and third is Steven Frossard, who won his maiden MX1 GP at his home track last weekend. In the MX2 class, both Ken Roczen and Jeffrey Herlings did not finish on the podium in France, but they kept their first and second position respectively in the point standings. Tommy Searle is third in the Championship, but he arrives in Portugal after obtaining his maiden GP win of the season. In the UEM EMX-2 championship, Aleksandr Tonkov became the new leader of the series after finishing second overall in the French round. Romain Febvre obtained his maiden overall victory in his home soil and he is now second of the championship, followed by Charles Lefrançois. MX1 Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Desalle was third overall in Saint Jean d’Angely, after winning the second heat but being only 11th in the first one due to an early crash right after the start. The Belgian rider is aware that any mistake can cause him the leadership of the Championship, as Antonio Cairoli is just six points behind him. Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Cairoli was tenth in the point standings after the first GP in Sevlievo, Bulgaria. However, the Italian is already second in the Championship and he is confident he can be at the lead soon, as his feelings on the bike are improving, as well as his fitness. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Frossard did an incredible Grand Prix in Saint Jean d’Angely and he dedicated his overall victory to his team, his family and especially the French crowed, who did not stop cheering for him during the whole weekend. Frossard has moved up to the third position of the Championship and he is now determined to recuperate the red plate. Following Frossard in the point standings is Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Nagl, who went down two positions in the Championship due to his seventh overall position in France. The German did not feel comfortable during the whole GP, so he is looking forward to race in Agueda to get his self-confidence back. Completing the top five is Monster Energy Yamaha’s Philippaerts, who could only be ninth in Saint Jean d’Angely. Philippaerts arrived in France determined to went out with the overall victory, but numerous mistakes, especially in the second heat, did not let the Italian repeat his 2010 overall victory in one of his favourite tracks. Rui Gonçalves will ride this weekend in his home track with his new Honda World Motocross machine, so it might be his opportunity to obtain his maiden podium of the season. 2010 MX1 PODIUM: 1. The German is still leading the FIM MX2 World Championship with 13 points advantage over his team-mate Jeffrey Herlings. At the same time, Jeffrey Herlings from Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2 team was also very unfortunate in France. Herlings did many mistakes in the first heat and he could only finish fourth overall thanks to his second place in the final heat. Instead, for CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’ Searle, it was a Grand Prix he will never forget. The British rider, even struggling with numerous problems during the weekend, he succeeded in being at the top of the rostrum for the first time this season. Searle is still third in the Championship. Zach Osborne from Bike-it Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha team obtained a bittersweet second overall position in France, as he was very close to win the French Grand Prix. The American rider is now fourth in the Championship and he is now one of the candidates to fight for the MX2 Championship. Completing the top five is Monster Energy Yamaha’s Paulin, who finished third overall in front of his French crowd. Paulin is fully fit again and his two last podiums are a proof of that, so the French rider is racing for his maiden GP victory this weekend in Agueda. Michael Leib will be back at the starting grid of the MX2 class after having missed the last GP’s due to an injury he suffered in the Bulgarian GP. 2010 MX2 PODIUM: 1. Marvin Musquin 2.
