Canard Kicks Off the 2014 Motocross Season with a Third Overall at Glen Helen Raceway‏

Torrance, CA: Following a five-year hiatus from the series, Glen Helen Raceway made its highly anticipated return this past Saturday to the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. More then 27,000 fans were on hand to witness the action as Team Honda Muscle Milk's Trey Canard kicked off the season strong with a third-place podium finish. Muscle Milk-supported GEICO Honda riders Justin Bogle and Matt Bisceglia finished 6-7 respectively in the 250 competition.

Canard posted the third-quickest qualifying time in practice, giving him a good gate pick heading into the first moto. He struggled off the line in moto one but put together a valiant charge, moving steadily through the field. While running fourth, another rider slammed into the back of Canard in a turn, causing him to stall his bike and lose multiple positions. He rallied back to finish seventh. In moto two, he launched his CRF450R off the line to a fifth-place start and quickly moved into third on the second lap, which is where he finished. His seventh- and third-place effort was enough to land him on the podium with third-place overall.
Teammate Justin Barcia grabbed good starts all day but had a tough first moto, leaving him with a score of 34-4 for 13th overall. Barcia was running fourth in moto one when a rock got lodged in his sprocket which caused his chain to fail and sidelined him for the remainder of the race. In moto two, Barcia propelled his CRF450R off the line to another good start, settling into fourth for the entire 30-minute plus two-lap race.

Just two weeks after wrapping up his career-first Eastern Regional 250 Supercross Championship, Muscle Milk-backed GEICO Honda's Justin Bogle kicked off the summer's Motocross series with a solid sixth-place overall finish. With a less-than-desirable start in the first moto, Bogle was able to work his way through the field into fifth. In moto two he propelled his CRF250R off the line and into the Talladega first turn to capture the holeshot, but went down a few turns later, causing him to fall outside the top 10. He rebounded to finish ninth.
"I feel really good, and there are lots of positives going into Hangtown next weekend," stated Bogle. "The first moto I had a bad start but rode well through the rest of it, made it up to third, but got a little tired and fell back to fifth. In the second moto, I pulled the holeshot because my GEICO Honda was a rocket ship and incredibly fast. I got passed, crashed on the hill, and ended up in a mud hole on a pass back. I got up pretty far back but ended up back in the top 10. Overall I think it was a solid day for me that we can build off."
Fellow Muscle Milk-sponsored GEICO Honda rider Matt Bisceglia posted the best finish of his young motocross career with 11-7 scores for seventh overall. "I'm happy with my finish but I need to improve on my speed. That's what I'll work on next," explained Bisceglia. "In the first moto I was in third for the first three laps. I fell off the pace a little and ended up 11th. The second moto however, I didn't really get a great start and was back in the pack, but I battled a couple guys, got by them, and finished seventh, so it was good."
Teammates Zach Bell and Zach Osborne did not fare well at the season opener, with both riders encountering trouble throughout the day. Bell had a strong showing during the first half of moto one but encountered troubles that sent him back to 17th. In moto two, he went down a couple times and ultimately finished 26th. Osborne recorded a respectable ninth-place finish in moto one, but crashed early in moto two, sidelining him for the remainder of the day.
