Press Release

Bel-Ray Weekend Racing Preview- September 21, 2012.

Bel-Ray athletes and teams have been closing out their racing seasons, looking to end with excellent results. The 2012 World Motocross and World Supermoto series both conclude this weekend, while the World Superbike series faces one more additional round following this weekend’s event.

World Supermoto

Bel-Ray backed TM factory racer Thomas Chareyre arrives at the Circuit Carole, in his home country of France, with the intention of wrapping up the World Supermoto Championship.  Consistent podium finishes all season long have given Chareyre a twenty point lead over his closest competitor coming into the weekend’s event. A top finish this weekend will give him back the title that he last held following the 2010 season.

Motocross

The 2012 World Motocross championship series concludes this weekend in Teutschenthal, Germany. After fifteen rounds of competition taking place around the world, Bel-Ray’s sponsored racers are confident for a positive end to the season.

In MX2 class racing, Bel-Ray sponsored Floride Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit team racer Tommy Searle looks to conclude his MX2 career on a high note with a victory this weekend. With a forty-two point lead on the third place competitor, Searle has all but wrapped up the runner-up position in the championship. He has already agreed to ride for the same team next season when he makes the move to the premier MX1 division. Searle’s MX2 teammate at the beginning of the season, Joel Roelants, was forced out of the series at the Matterly Basin with a season-ending injury, but will still finish in the top ten for the series based on his consistent early season finishes.

In MX1 class racing, CP377 Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit racer Christophe Pourcel is just off the podium in fourth place in the 2012 series' standings. Only six points out of third coming into the weekend, Pourcel can use a good finish to close the gap and gain a top three spot in the series. His brother and teammate Sebastein Pourcel is secure in the top fifteen in the series points despite missing rounds this season due to injury. The French duo is comfortable on hard packed tracks like Teutschenthal, an advantage that should benefit them this weekend.

World Superbike

The Bel-Ray sponsored Althea Ducati team of Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano come to the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal for the penultimate round of the 2012 World Championship series.

Both racers have fine memories of the Portugese circuit from last season with Checa taking a victory and Giugliano scoring points in his maiden world superbike event. The series winds down with Checa in fourth and Giugliano in tenth in the series' standing, positions they hope to improve in the final two races.

Checa spoke about the upcoming weekend and some of his struggles this season. “It’s difficult because we usually use the data from the previous year’s race, but as we saw last year in Germany, lwe were going a lot better, while this year,  we’re struggling and so those references are not so useful. Nevertheless, Portimao is a fun track with undulations that really make the rider work hard. I’ll face this weekend with the usual philosophy, I’ll do my best to adapt to the conditions and make the most of both the bike and my ability. We’ll see what we are able to do.”

“Last year was great at Portimao because it was my first SBK experience,” said Giugliano this week prior to the event. “It all went well in the practice sessions and in the races, I definitely learned a lot in a very short time; I immediately saw that in SBK riders are pushing a lot harder right from the start line and you can gain a good position already through the first corners. In race one, I was nervous, but I calmed down for the second race, which went pretty well. Not bad for my first SBK weekend. This year, things are not easy, we continue to have the same problem, but this won’t stop me from doing my best during the final races of the season.”
