Hey Vital, I was just wondering about what else I could do to my 2005 CRF250R in order to coax more power out, but maintain it's reliability (run on 91-93 pump gas). I've listed the after market performance parts It has and the major work I have had done since purchasing it:

-White Brothers MX4 slip-on exhaust (could use repacking)
-factory effex radiator hoses
-Boyeson Supercooler water pump
-stainless steel valves installed and adjusted
-Sprockets are same # of teeth as OEM

Do you guys know of any other mods that might give me a bit more power, while maintaining reliability?

Insure the bike for as much as possible. Drive to the closest major city with the bike in back. Leave vehicle unattended for as long as it takes for bike to disappear. Report stolen and take insurance money to dealership to buy a new green, blue, or orange 250F.

I had an 05 and the valves went out pretty quick despite being meticulously maintained. I rode the bike stock but a lot of people were installing the head and cam from the 08 model with Ferrera stainless valves and springs. If I remember right, engine builder ron Hamp who was a crf250 expert at the time claimed the stock 08 cam was capable of supporting 40 hp.

How many hours are on it? A new piston and rings might bring some pep back into it. Cams are pretty cheap and bring more power. Maybe a full exhaust with headpipe. Remove the backfire screen from your air filter cage.

If I switch to an 08 cam and head, I might just have to do a subframe and dual exhaust conversion while I'm at it! Definitely going to look into this, much appreciated.

I have put 10-12 hours on the engine since it got new rings, SS valves, and Springs. The piston definitely could have taken a turn for the worse since last inspection. I do like the backfire screen idea, I suppose I would then use a fire resistant filter like are supplied with high-flo kits?

I appreciate the info!

After removing the backfire screen I still use the normal air filter. Just up to you.

If you are going to use the 08 cam you can't use the 05 springs because the aren't stiff enough. With all of the aftermarket cams available now there might be ones that are just as good or better now. I know that crower makes good stuff and will regrind you stock one for you. As for the dual exhaust, there is no advantage to running it. Most pros removed the dual and switched to an aftermarket single because they're lighter and less likely to be damaged in a crash.
