I am from "old school" photography--film---and am going to digital slr. My question is, what does the higher number megapixel, lets say 8MP vs 12MP, accomplish? Is there a clarity issue or for larger print sizing or what?? i have been researching cameras and lenses for the last 5 months now, and have decided on the Canon Rebel XT, or the XTi. NOW Canon comes out with the XSi!!!! The price of the XT has dropped dramatically though and am really considering that option, as there would more funds for a higher end lens, which brings this question--- what would you recommend( 1 lense only for now) for shooting outdoor mx but also indoor arenacross?

Thanks--
Scott

MP correlates to the size of the image, so yes more megapixles = larger prints. Unless you are going to be printing huge posters, you will be fine with the 8MP. I have printed 16 X 20 photos from images taken on a 30D.

Money spent on a lens will be better than money spent on extra MP.

Sensor Megapixel count = silver halide crystal density of film.
