1989 CR125 Shifting Problem

Hey guys, looking to get into vintage bikes so I can start racing with my dad.

I found a cr125 on my local craigslist that used to belong to my uncle and I think it would be a good bike to have.

The bike runs through the gears fine, but the only thing that is wrong with it is that it won't go into 5th gear. I mean it will go into 5th but it won't engage, it's just like having a second neutral. But then it will shift into 6th gear fine. What could be wrong with it? Shift fork or maybe a bad gear? Any thoughts on this?

It sounds like a bad 5th gear, but unfortunately you won't know until you split the cases. The 89 was a great bike. There is an 89 on Craigslist by me in Philly for $1000.00, but I can't add to my collection until my 90 is completely restored. Good luck with the project!!
