Looking at buying a military surplus M16 parts kit to build a old school vintage looking AR with. No receiver of course, and no barrel. They refer to them as "Viet Nam era", but they have the forward assist. No shell deflector though. I thought the forward assist came about mid 70's??? Anyway, worth a crap for $449.00? Also been looking at some early AR's without forward assist. Early ones ('64/65) with low serial numbers tend to get pricey!
$449 is cheap. VS Buying a complete SP1 for $2,000+.
However buying a real factory built Colt SP1 would hold it's value much better.
A real factory Colt M16 A1 complete would cost you around 20k also these days.
Those parts also look full auto - which the M16 A1 was.
You would have to find a title 2 transferable lower (transferable machine gun M16 A1 Lower) I assume to use all those parts together legally. That would be a rare find - just finding a lower.
That firing group looks full auto by the looks of that hammer not being notched.
Here is a Colt SP1 semi auto hammer from that era - see how it's notched.
Back in those days...
Here is a pic of a semi auto SP1 Colt Hammer next to A Colt M16 A1 Hammer.
Now a days they make hammers both ways for semi auto weapons (notched & un-notched).
But Colt didn't back then.
Now...
If you already had a M16 A1 and needed a parts kit.
That would be a great buy.
My neighbor has a M16 he bought about 10-15 years ago for $2000.00, now like you said, 20 grand and up!
Using a full auto bolt or sear or other firing groups parts in a semi-auto rifle is illegal.
Even if the rifle only fires in semi auto. Even installing the selector/safety is illegal I believe.
They can bust you for conspiring to build a machine gun -especially if you have the other full auto parts laying around your place that would complete it (a machine gun build).
Be careful.
You're better off sticking with semi auto stuff ,unless you want to build an actual M16 machine gun.
That's my advice.
Basically a build that requires no background check and build a legal rifle/carbine that the BATF cannot trace back to a dealer or manufacturer or have no record of. (You cannot sell the lower though - but it's legal to build your own gun, possess it & fire it.)
If you got a drill press....
Get yourself a 80% lower with jig & drill it out. $199.95 (they also have .308's)
You can just order this straight to your house - no transferring through a FFL dealer required.
The BATF just see's it as a hunk of metal.

(you can save the jig & also build more lowers for other builds)
Then grab a lower parts kit. $57.95

Then grab a buffer kit. $37.95

Then just choose any complete upper. $799 & up depending on what you want.

Grab a collapsible stock,Mag & ammo and you're in business for around $1,200 (depending on what type of upper you buy or stock). No Government record of you owning it or it ever existing.
Post a reply to: Eddy, mil surplus M16 kits??
