I imagine it varies per state, but a rough number would do, if ya know it. I'd like the cost of both a sole proprietorship and a partnership.

I have two LLCs and the legal fees were right at $750.00.

They were done at the same time to save cost. One is active and one is for future business.

We just did one also and it cost around $500. The attorney even told me that if I needed another LLC, just copy the basic form of this one, change the name(s) as needed and be sure to record all the documents with the proper agency.

I'll be the only employee here to start out, as well as partner. The other half of the partnership is in Taiwan. I've heard that Social Security really eats into the money.

Mostly selling engineered part manufacturing such as injection molding, castings, stampings, PCBA's, etc. The team I've worked with there has proven itself in several projects. I've done the front-end engineering, and they've brought it through design for tooling to manufacture. I'd still offer the front end engineering and project management (where necessary). Then, I'd team with the Taiwan group through complete manufacturing.

I've read that of the payments a private business owner has to make, the payments to social security is one of the biggest.

it may be one of the biggest % because the employer pays half and the employee pays the other half BUT it is only based upon your payroll......not like its some giant payment that has to be sent in each year. you have no employees so you wont pay in any s.s.

bottom line is....if you make tons of money, taxes of any kind are no problem.

I'm going to be employed by another employer while I start up this business. I know I'll have to talk to a tax attorney...but I'm poking around here to see what others know (in addition to the reading I've started to do).

Even if you're the sole employee, don't you then have to make your own social security payments?
