any good suggestions for a family HD camcorder?

I'm looking for one that records good HD video and is easy to use. I don't need a thousand different video functions.

I want to be able to record/play/download...mostly sporting events.

Goons at the retail outlets don't really seem to know anything, except that the one that is on sale is pretty good and the most expensive one is bad ass.

Looking for feedback from those who have actually used them...

Get a Flip. Records in HD and is very easy to use and is smaller than a cell phone. Downloads all videos via USB port. I use mine all the time.

For sports try to find one with as wide a field of view as possible. I record my daughters school athletics and most of the off the shelf ones have umpteen million x's of zoom, but a very narrow field of view.

Just sayin'
