You can't blame the American riders for not racing the GP at Glen Helen. They only had one weekend off in the last 17 weeks. Why would they race a race that offers no purse? Ok its not about the money but GH is the most dangerous track out there. 2 of my best friends in high school got paralyzed there...Mike Young and Jamie Wells.....not to mention at least 5 more have been flown out of there. Ok there is a simple solution to this. Move the race to the last race of the season, 1 week after the last national where the riders dont have to worry about getting injured. I understand the riders in the 80's always raced the USGP, but I dont remember it being a week before the nationals started......

Other than the injury factor I don't really see why they wouldn't race it.

I haven't had a week off in the last 17 weeks at my job but if someone offered up $105,000 for one weekend only, to do my job to the best of my ability, I'm lining that deal up... Pronto! I can guaranfuckintee you that my job isn't nearly as fun as racing motorcycles.

If they are tired after 17 weeks of racing, why in the world wouldn`t they be tired after 30 weeks, and with the MXDN`s around the corner? It is IMO not a good point.
It`s all about money.

I would be real surprised if rider's contracts today even allowed them to compete in events other than those specifically stated in their contracts. Most likely, a clause is in place that either prevents them from competing in other events, or if they are injured competing in non-specified events would void their contract.

It's about the money on both sides of the contract...The manufacturer's have already paid the GP teams to compete in the GPs. They really don't need to risk injury to riders paid to ride the US Nationals. Blaming the riders or calling them unamerican is pointing the finger in the wrong direction in my opinion. Contracts were pretty loosly written in the old days when anyone and everyone would line up to race, just to prove who was the fastest.... Nice litigious society we live in today..
