It would take a lot of money for me to get on board to go through the whoops at Millville with RC at the helm

I was just wondering. Over here the sport is very popular. 2 mates of mine are racing the sidecarcross of nations this weekend. One is in Belgium 1 and the other one is in Belgium 2. Another mate of mine ended his career a few years ago. He became 5 times champion of Belgium, 2 times european champion and he finished 7th in the 1 year he entered the world championship.
Some guys over here don't go to watch normal mx or sx, only these sidecars. I have never heard anything about it in the states so i really wanted to know and now i know .
For those who think that this thing is easy just think again. I have been riding mx for approx 25 years now and i have been a passenger in those sidecars a few times now. Mx is a very demanding sport. You have to be in a really good shape to do it. But it's nothing compared with being the passenger in a sidecar. After 2 laps i thought i was going to die. I begged the rider to stop (it was that guy that ended his career a few years ago) but he just kept the throttle wide open to get to the finish line asap. All i could do was hold on lol.
A few years ago he won the world championship by winning every single round. Sven Verbrugge from Belgium was his passenger both those 2 were no mates at all. They often crossed the finish line while they were fighting eachother. Hitting eachother. It was unbelievable to see how such a fast duo could just not stand eachother lol.
Crazy European mofo's on english twins.

I was in a race with Daniel Willemsen once when he entered a race on a "normal" MX bike. They had the sidecar engine in that thing though. 900cc 2 stroke!! He got the holeshot every moto.

And yes, this sport is hardcore. And so are the riders lol. This sport is not so pretty as mx where, with a smooth style you can achieve a lot. In this sport there is no room for smooth riders. All these guys are pretty hard fighters. Just imagine trying to overtake another sidecar with your sidecar. It's difficult to overtake someone with a dirtbike but with this wide thing it is almost impossible. No room to be smooth.. you have to fight your way to the front. Therefor most of these riders are big, strong, muscular guys who won't move an inch when they don't want to.
You can see a lot of pics on this website : http://www.vdv-pictures.be/ . Just click on "fotoalbum" and you will find a lot (and i do mean a lot) of pics of these sidecars. You will also find jumps but you have to remember that, because of the weight of these things, they won't jumps as far as normal dirtbikes. However... it still is pretty far, especially if you are the passenger :D
btw.. for some strange reason i don't seem to be able to find any scrubbing pics :D
Even suspensions come from different factorys then normal mx. Reiger is by far the biggest provider of suspensions for these bikes but i have never seen a normal mx bike with Reiger suspension.
The sport is fun for sure. It's not as smooth or elegant as mx tho. It's rough, hardcore action. The roost that comes of the back of those bikes is insane. It's more then double of a normal dirtbike. One thing i hate about these things tho. If you run normal mx and you have to ride the heat after these beasts have riden you are in trouble. These sidecars make ruts that are so deep it's almost impossible to ride in with a normal bike. Best thing imo is to have a quad race after the sidecars. The quads make the tracks rideable again.
