I thought you guys might like to see that David's dad is a bit of a celebrity in his own right. In surfing circles, this guy is a legend.

Terry Martin has been around forever. There was a time that he got away from working exclusively for Hobie and did some boards on his own. I have an old Terry Martin shaped board and the brand name on the board is "just add water".

Awesome guy. He's building me two boards as we speak.

I just marvel at the artistic side of it. Beautiful work.

He's an icon in the sport of surfing, and I am glad to see that he's still at work. He's got to be in 70s.

Haha! He said, "hoop-de-doos" in the video.
I've known Terry Martin and his son Josh for almost 30 years. They are very cool cats.
Terry is like a human CNC machine. He is known to roll into his shaping room at 3 to 4am- just to get an early start.

That was pretty cool Mark. I'm always impressed by real craftsmanship. Are there many others out there taking up this artform or are these older guys a dying breed?

People are always learning how to make boards! There are tons of kids these days who are making boards. Anyone can do it, but doing it well is tough. The great thing about making boards it that it's relatively cheap, so you can play with different things to see how you like the changes.

Another awesome board builder who's into moto, he's done the different celebrity mx races around and about California, Cordell Miller. David's dad is an amazing man on top of his board making skills.

Nice!

Cordell Miller's boards are like Payton's PC Kawis, while Terry Martin's are more like vintage style Harleys....

Having shaped surfboards, Terry makes this look so easy.

That's odd, my ex wife got married two other times and my Son still has my last name.

I don't know the backstory to that, and I'm not willing (or interested) to ask about such a personal matter.

I do have a lot of respect and admiration for Terry Martin, a lot of which has to do with his faith. But I'll stop here as I'm heading into "non-moto" territory...

Yet another surfboard builder/moto-tard...

http://boarddesignbyzephaniahcarrigg.blogspot.com/

Terry is a very cool individual. At a surfboard show (Sacred Craft) he specked out all the vendors, came back with lunch and told me I was his favorite builder hands down. It was like David Bailey telling me I had the best moto style.... SIIIICK BRO!

Ummm.... done bragging for now!
