I'm in the market for a new one. I would also like some back and rib protection. Anybody got any favorites? I don't want just "roost" protection. I want chest, rib and spine protection. Is there such a product?

Let me also say in advance, "much ty"

I was looking for some of the same characteristics. I bought the Alpinestars A-4 this spring and have been really pleased with it. It has alot of coverage on the back and some on the sides (which this weekend when I took at branch to the ribcage proved valuable). Also it is vented really well. Overall all I have been very happy with it. I don't wear a neck brace with it so I can't comment to that aspect. Hope this helps.

OP, from the looks of your profile picture you have enough protection for your entire body. But if you are still concerned about protection maybe I should recommend a bullet proof vest to go over your early 90's track suit? Much ty for your question.

Funny you guys should mention the A-stars 4 & 10. Both are what I was leaning towards.

I have to wear one know that covers my defibrillator, so it doesn't get hit by a rock. I just cut the sleeves off

The Fox Roost 2 and HRP may have been the best 2 chest protectors of all time. With that in mind, I'd lean towards the Fox that is pictured above.

I've got this one. I use it under-jersey and it's pretty comfy...as chest pros go.

Thanks for your input, Georgiabro. Sure wish the old Valdosta track was still open.

I'm still wearing my roost 2, it's about 18 years old and looks it too!
Do those new fox ones have the suspension mesh under the shoulder pads?
That was the best feature of the roost 2, those shoulder pads took the hit and the mesh underneath prevented your shoulder from receiving the follow through.
I've never had a shoulder or collarbone injury. I put that down to the protection offered by that old roost 2.
I'm in the market for a new one too...

Harrybro,

The best protection you can get on the market is an RXR Chest Protector but the downside is they are warm. Probably not as warm as that fur jacket your are currently sporting or that sweater from your previous avatar pic.

They are air inflatable.

The Leatt 4.5 had the highest impact ratings in the price range and its super comfy so that's what I bought. Obviously neck brace compatible too.

Damn neckbraces came out now almost none of the chest protectors have any shoulder protection. WTF! Damn my shoulder hurts!

Yes, Much ty!!

I use a RXR Bullet protector.
Very protective, but extremely hot and bulky.
The back and chest protection is second to none, with the inflatable protection on vital areas.
Has to be worn over the jersey, it's too bulky to go under.
After I sustained vertebrae damage at the start of 2016, I've been wearing it. If you can put up with the bulk, it's worth it.

I don't know if you wear a neck brace or not, but this is the one I wear and it's neck brace compatible. I was in the same boat, I wanted at least some shoulder protection, and this was the best option I found.

I picked up a Fox Raptor Roost Protector and really like it. Great wrap around protection.
