I don't see a problem with it myself. There is no interest from the public over there, the MotoGP is the same.

The Qatar is simply all about the £££ for YS and manufacturers.

2014 MotoGP attendance by event:
1. Czech Republic Brno 240,695 (weekend total)
2. Spain Jerez 229,416
3. Germany Sachsenring 209,408
4. Spain Valencia 197,000
5. France Le Mans 178,073
6. Spain Barcelona-Catalunya 163,045
7. UK Silverstone 138,000
8. USA Indianapolis 132,817
9. Netherlands TT Circuit Assen 131,000
10. Malaysia Sepang 130,925
11. Argentina Termas de Rio Hondo 125,961
12. USA Austin 118,918
13. Spain MotorLand Aragon 112,331
14. Italy Mugello 111,309
15. San Marino Misano 88,665
16. Australia Phillip Island 77,900
17. Japan Twin Ring Motegi 70,271
18. Qatar Losail 17,890

I did actually look how much it would cost to make a last minute trip out there. Too much unfortunately. I highly doubt there will be any sort of crowd worth mentioning though, even with free entry. Although the Youthstream press release will say 20,000

Edit: Jamma I'm surprised the attendance for MotoGP in Qatar is that high. Always looks as if there's no-one there at all

Well, Qatar is an emerging market with a non-existent moto scene... An entry fee would just turn away those who are new to the MX scene and maybe curious. European races won't gain anything more by removing the entrance fee, because the people that want to go and plan on going are willing to pay the fee because MX in Europe and is already well established and followed.

I don't agree with a majority of Luongo's practices, but this is just common sense. Not sure what is so difficult to understand.

You know F1 and MotoGP have been going there for years right...?

If it's good enough for Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso then Im sure Villopoto can also put up with the lavish riches of the gulf state too.

3rd world.... hmmm - you do know where quatar is don't you? and what sort of place it is

people in quatar drive around in cars like this

not a big fan of the series going to these desolate places, with little to no attendance. But its the future- if a few rich oil barons want to spend some pocket change to build a floodlit track and watch some dirt bikes then who am I to argue.....

it is a WORLD championship. I guess it is only right that they travel around the world and race in different countries

Damn. My bad. I just assumed looking at the map it was like every other country in that area. At first glance on the map I was like fuck they are in the middle of fucking nowhere! Plus I watched the race from last year. Looked pretty desolate!

The fact you had to look at a map to know where Qatar is tells enough.

Omg I cannot believe I just read that Blush

......

And yeah, Qatar is not about attendance.

Anybody ever looking to go to a really good MOTOGP really race should try Brno, Czech Republic is excellent, for many things.

But please if you don't know the place, take a quick read on google FFS.

Well that is one way to think about what a world championship means. It could also mean that people come from all over the world to compete.

Some people seem to be a little overly sensitive about one guy not understanding the economic state of a Country.

Free entry great idea!!!! So now the average blue- collar Sheikhs can bring their 13 wives to the race without breaking the bank, and can then afford to buy each of them a Coors Lite (regular size) and a hot dog at concessions...

Dude just called the wealthiest country in the world a 3rd world country Blink That's not a simple mistake, it's complete ignorance.

Give the give the guy a break. I never knew about Qatar either until I read about it and the World Cup bribery. This Euro geography arrogance is so lame. We dont give a fuck about countries in the Middle East the size of Delaware .Get over yourself.
