Penrite Honda Racing celebrate successful Phillip Island double-header

The Penrite Honda Racing team has enjoyed a successful weekend at Rounds 3 and 4 of the Penrite Australian Supercross Championship at the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Gavin Faith continued to dominate the SX2 class, winning his heat races and taking back-to-back victories in both Saturday and Sunday's 15-Lap finals.

Teammate Jay Marmont made a triumphant return to the podium in the SX1 class. The eight-time champion finished third in Saturday’s Round 3, 20-lap final before going one better with second in today final encounter.

In securing his third consecutive SX2 round win, Faith has extended his championship lead to sit 18 points clear of fellow American Kyle Peters heading into the final round of the championship in three weeks time.

“It was a really good weekend,” Faith said. “I got out in second today and worked my way past Hayden (Mellross) then rode my own race from there.

“We head into the final round of the series with a good points buffer but it is by no means a done deal.

“I am looking forward to racing in Brisbane it will be my first indoor race in Australia," Faith continued.

Claiming a solid points haul at Phillip Island has elevated Marmont to fifth in the SX1 championship standings.

“I was very happy with the weekend. I wasn’t the fastest out there but I made it work,” Marmont explained.

“In both finals I really had to work for it but I came through and it was good to get back on the podium.  We have made up a lot of ground and now I am little over 14 points shy of second place.

“Matt will be riding for the championship in Brisbane so my plan is to go and take it to him, to see if we can secure a top three finish,” Marmont concluded.

Team Owner Yarrive Konsky praised the team's ongoing committment and dedication to keep putting their best foot forward in what had been a difficult season.

"It really was an incredible weekend," Konsky said. "We achieved amazing results this weekend and the whole team should be extremely proud.

"In an injury ridden season doubt creeps in and many people didn't believe in the team or Jay. Redemption is a great silencer.

"We would like to thank our sponsors and fans for their unwaivering support during the hard times. We have always believed in our product and the results we have been achieving wiith Gavin and Jay are a huge confidence booster for the whole team," Konsky added.

Penrite Honda supported rider Keith Tucker also made up ground in just his second outing in Australia. The 17-year-old American finished 12th in Saturday’s SX1 final and eighth today.
