I don't understand, Reedy just keeps getting written off as done. Then coming back and showing everyone up. He's outlasted both RC and RV, 34 years old and still fighting for wins. Is he injecting tiger blood? Weston Peick blood? Has he discovered the Fountain of Youth?
Or is it just because he's from Australia and Aussies don't give a fuck about age?
Either way, dude impressed the shit out of me this weekend and at A1. I'm a Roczen fan, but damned if Reed hasn't grown on me.

Kevin Windham rode at an older age too.

Does anyone see the change happening in RD5? His podium speech at San Diego, he mentioned something about getting burned out. It definitely reminded me of RV's speeches when you could really tell he was getting bored with winning.
Weird, anyone else notice this with Dungey?
Reed has won every single american title you can win, minus the 125 (250) outdoor title. he has the most podiums of all time. he has 40 something supercross wins... etc
He seems like a different version of the Millsaps dilemma. Millsaps only seems to be motivated when he's at the end of a contract. Reed seems to be the most motivated when he's written off/running out of options.
It took nearly a decade for someone to finally dethrone Jeremy McGrath, and even with Ricky Carmichael that feat took two seasons and a complete redesign of himself mentally and physically through the tutelage of Johnny O'Mara.
In short, no one should have been able to touch Carmichael in 2003, but Reed just shows up as a premier class rookie, winning 8 rounds to Carmichael's 7.
His beginning is just as amazing as his work now, but to think that was 13 years ago and then seeing Reed today, it's mind blowing.
I guess my point was just that certain riders put more stress on their bodies to achieve their goals. Obviously Reed is near the top of anybody's (or should be) all time list. But he hasn't gone crazy and hung it out like the two red heads. For this reason, I think he can still preform where the other two got burnt out (mind and body).
Pit Row
JT$ once brought up how Reed is a rare physical specimen with above average lung and blood pumping abilities.
I respect the guy for his speed, and his history of results
As for my opinion on the thread title...to me it's pretty obvious how he does it. Look at his time in the sport right from the beginning...he was one of the "Four".
Who remembers back in the early 90's when there was a field of extremely talented riders who were all fighting for the title...then along came Jeremy and literally, there was no fight for the title any more. No one was in his league...it was like a single A grade rider being put in the C class. It was 5 years of "What the FUCK" this isnt even worth watching!
Then of course we know the history...along came Ricky and took over and we all thought that was it. 12 months later Chad comes out of nowhere and then James. Now we had 3 with greater speed than Jeremy...it was insane how far ahead they would all finish...IMO these are the guys who reinvented the speed of the sport to what it is today.
Chad keeps doing it because he is insanely fast and now we have lot more riders what that kind of speed as they grew up watching him, and RC, and James etc.
When Chad came over last year to race in Aus, his level of riding was apparent...it's not his speed and results that surprise me, it's how long he has been riding at this level and STILL enjoying it.
Edit: and you only have to look at RC riding in Australia. I lost my shit watching him rail some of those corners. Clearly you dont lose it as quickly as people think. These guys have riden so much that to lose "most" of their speed is probably comparable to forgetting how to breath.
If RC got motivated and trained again no doubt he'd be winning too. Same as James is still in the mix. 3 of the fastest. Who all could fly in two strokes and that's what probably did it for them- corner speed.
My concern is that I hope he doesn't get over confident. When he feels he is the fastest guy out there bad things have happened i.e. San Diego SX 2014 and the infamous Millville Chadapault.
Hopefully the YZ is more forgiving.
