Just wondering is this why GP riders seem to be faster then the AMA pros because they don't do track maintenance to make tracks perfect for practice they just go out and ride?

I would say it's part of it. After you've reached a certain skill level you need significantly more measures variation in your training to improve performance in any sport period. When you groom the track too frequently the variation is less because things are more predictable. However Europe has a much more suitable schedule for performance. The breaks and distribution of schedule is far better for peak performance, where the US schedule of supercross to motocross only lends to significant overtraining and systemic recovery problems impacting performance as a whole. Can still be very successful but generally speaking
