John from Mullet Moto presented us with a pristine 1986 CR500 replica build based on David Bailey's USGP at Carlsbad Raceway. We sit down with the legend himself David Bailey, to bench race about this specific year of his career and his time spent on this monster of a machine. Don't miss out!

David Bailey is one of my Motocross heroes. I had a 1985 Honda CR500. I read an article on David's bike and switched my footings to Honda CR125 footpegs.
David was absolutely correct about those bikes being hard to kickstart...lol

I too have a terror of terra 85’500r. Seems Bailey had the same notion Back then as I did last year. My thought was the pegs were too far forward.
the mounting seem unique to this bike but I had some fits-all vintage cast AL pegs I made work by filing the hell out of them. BUT still cant figure out how to put return springs on them. What yr CR125 pegs dud you use and what was baileys reasoning in using them? . Were they a drop in replacement? I tried 1987 500r pegs but no way could I get them on unless I cut the solid frame lugs off and fabbed an 87 like frame lug.
Not sure how to post a pic on this site
BTW this wench starts one or two kicks now cold hot or flooded.
Took 5 years and a damaged Achilles to get it dialed in .

I used oem 1985 Honda CR125 pegs from my local Honda dealer. Of course those pegs were much easier to get in 1985 too! Also, I know I didn't have to make any modifications to those pegs. I only had hand tools in 1985.
Also my local Honda dealer found Honda made a complete taller seat. I ordered and installed the taller seat too. That really helped with the transition between the seat and gas tank.
