Vital Review
Overall Review
As usual with OEMs that have a large range of dirt bike options, Yamaha introduced major changes to their flagship motocross bikes first, then a year later trickled those changes down to their off-road compatriots. Thus, the case of the 2020 Yamaha YZ250FX. In 2019, the YZ250F (MXer) got a top-to-bottom tune-up with a new frame, changes to the engine, new body work, handlebar map switch, and new engine mounts, among other small changes. Not only does the FX get all that, it also gets some changes to its off-road specific features including a larger gas tank, new side stand, new skid plate, and...

Premix fanatics unite! Ok, we know it isn’t a new two-stroke motocross machine but another two-stroke option is still a good thing. And when it comes down to it, cross-country style racing is still a growing sector of the dirt bike market and off-road is where a majority of riders, including pro motocrossers, get their start. Speaking of starting, that is exactly what the YZ125X is aimed at. Getting people started in the glorious sport that is dirt bike riding. Or even getting them riding again for those older guys and gals who want to get back into it. Yamaha explained that the 125X is the...

Motocrossers can be impatient, sometimes. We complain when we see bikes unchanged, and want new bikes every year. But, for 2020, Yamaha has left us no room to complain about the YZ450F lacking changes. While it isn't a new-from-the-ground-up bike, from the brakes to the triple camps to suspension and the motor, there isn’t an area on this machine that wasn’t massaged by the Yamaha R&D department. 2020 Changes: Motor Overall, Yamaha went to work making the cylinder head, and everything in it, smaller, lighter, and more compact, not unlike what KTM and Husqvarna did a couple years back to their...

The 2020 Yamaha YZ250F is finally here and we had the chance to spin a few laps on it at Fox Raceway. With the complete remodel of the 2019 YZ250F, the 2020 YZ250F has very few changes this year including bold new graphics. For this year's model, Yamaha focused on a more broad power range with mid to top power. With this, Yamaha has achieved a steady level of power and control across the board. The Power Tuner App, available for both Android and Apple users, is highly suggested for logging race settings, map settings, and running diagnostic codes. Overall, with minor changes to the 2020 YZ250F...

Yamaha's XC lineup is becoming quite robust and the little bore machines aren't left out. While the YZ250FX remains unchanged in the performance department, the location of this year's test did. The BluCru decided to give us a crack at the conditions the bike was meant for by dropping us in South Carolina at Randy Hawkin's private facility with plenty of trees, roots, creeks, and tight confines to ride in.
