2020 Yamaha YZ450F
Vital Review
Overall Review
Motocrossers can be impatient, sometimes. We complain when we see bikes unchanged, and want new bikes every year. But, for 2020, Yamaha has left us no room to complain about the YZ450F lacking changes. While it isn't a new-from-the-ground-up bike, from the brakes to the triple camps to suspension and the motor, there isn’t an area on this machine that wasn’t massaged by the Yamaha R&D department. 2020 Changes: Motor Overall, Yamaha went to work making the cylinder head, and everything in it, smaller, lighter, and more compact, not unlike what KTM and Husqvarna did a couple years back to their...

The 2020 Yamaha YZ250F is finally here and we had the chance to spin a few laps on it at Fox Raceway. With the complete remodel of the 2019 YZ250F, the 2020 YZ250F has very few changes this year including bold new graphics. For this year's model, Yamaha focused on a more broad power range with mid to top power. With this, Yamaha has achieved a steady level of power and control across the board. The Power Tuner App, available for both Android and Apple users, is highly suggested for logging race settings, map settings, and running diagnostic codes. Overall, with minor changes to the 2020 YZ250F...

Yamaha's XC lineup is becoming quite robust and the little bore machines aren't left out. While the YZ250FX remains unchanged in the performance department, the location of this year's test did. The BluCru decided to give us a crack at the conditions the bike was meant for by dropping us in South Carolina at Randy Hawkin's private facility with plenty of trees, roots, creeks, and tight confines to ride in. Since a massive overhaul in 2014, Yamaha's YZ250F instantly shot to the top of Shootout and opinions. Dubbed by many as a mini-450, the YZF had a power character a bit unique in the class and in an overall sense, it was FAST. Since then, it's stayed near the top with some revisions but ultimately a few bikes have come within it's reign or even taken it away. This was due to a larger feel and handling charateristics that weren't horrible, but just not as finely-tuned as the competition had become. For 2019, Yamaha came in with a host of suspension, chassis, and bodywork changes to get the...

Yamaha's 2018 YZ450F was a big overhaul for the brand. With the usual updates such as a new chassis and bodywork but taken a bit further. In the case of the bodywork, there was a big redesign up front to thin up the bike and attempt to reach the same feel as their competition. With a new airbox design, relocated radiators and mounting angles, along with a fuel tank change...they were able to rotate the shrouds inwards and this was one of the largest changes a brand has ever made just with plastics. Other than that, Yamaha added their name to the electric start club with a complete engine case...

First Impressions: 2017 Yamaha YZ450F - More Motocross Videos After a moderate amount of changes in 2016, the 2017 model received a very short list of updates. This includes new tires, going from Dunlop's MX52 to the MX3S, new airbox mold better hide the zeus fasteners, and few internal engine parts that were updated for reliability. This isn't too surprising after Yamaha added new intake and exhaust cams, improved ECU settings, an updated frame, lower footpegs mounts, a new triple clamp offset, and more to the 2016 model. A few of which made their way to the YZ250F, which gained most of the...
