This Thor MX Core Pinstripe gear made its debut at last summer’s X Games…though we have to admit, we were so busy watching to see what Travis Pastrana would do next during the Freestyle finals that it was almost easy to miss it. It’s may not be one of the flashier colorways in the Thor line, but that’s good news for New York Yankees fans, riders who like something somewhat less flashy, or riders looking for a “slimming effect.”

Stylish and sophisticated would pretty much describe the look of the Thor Core Pinstripe gear. Now like the Babe, you can sit on the starting gate and call your shot.

Like all the top-of-the-line Thor Core gear, it’s about function. The ram-air venting on the thigh and ventilated panels (with mesh filter keep air flowing), and the half-length inner liner (which reduces bulk and works well with knee braces) are nice touches.

While we were impressed with the lightweight heft of the pants (particularly compared to some of the pants in recent memory that had heavy rubber panels) looking over the Core gear there’s no doubt that durability is also a prime consideration. There are heavy-duty Dura-poly butt panels, double- and triple-stitching, as well as ballistic knee panels and full-grain leather knees.

Thor MX Core Pinstripe Gear Tight mesh "filters" keep your vented panels from getting plugged up.

To provide added comfort, the patterns were developed with ride-position comfort in mind. Combine that with a split rear yoke and a variety of stretch panels, and it’s easy to see fit and comfort were prime concerns.

Thor MX Core Pinstripe Gear jersey The Thor Core jersey ($50) features a taller-than-average collar and roost flap so your neck doesn't take quite as much abuse. It's also well-vented and lightweight.

The matching Core jersey is constructed using an oval mesh material, and cooling underarm vents. These are also plenty of nice touches like the silicone print on the tail to keep it from pulling out of your pans, and the stair step collar.

Suggested retail on the pants is $150, and the jersey is an additional $50.

We’re shipping this set out to one of our Vital MX members for a longer-term torture test (we believe in sharing the wealth), so watch for that in the future. In the meantime, look for these in your local shop.
