First Look: Gaerne SG-11 5

Gaerne is known for producing some of the best boots on the market, including their flagship SG-12 boot. But as the materials have gotten more expensive, they were faced with the possibility of having to produce their boots out of cheaper materials to meet their original price. Instead, Gaerne decided to produce a boot that would slot price-wise between their SG-10 and SG-12 models. This would allow them to continue making their boots out of the best materials, while still meeting multiple price points. That resulted in the introduction of the SG-11.

The new SG-11 is built with a wrap-around pivot system and a rear slider, this allows for easy movement and a low break-in time. This system is based on the same design used on their top-of-the-line SG-12 boot. It also shares a few small parts from its brethren to balance out the price, such as the buckles and the sole from the SG-10. Otherwise the SG-11 is built on its own design, and in its own mold. That makes this a completely a new boot with its own unique feel from the other models in their lineup.

Outside of the nine available sizes, the top two buckles have multiple mounting holes to adjust the size of the top half of the boot. This allows the boot to be adjusted differently for riders with different leg sizes, or with different types of knee protection. It also features a high quality gaiter to keep dirt and other debris from falling inside the boot. Also, the SG-11 has a rubber compound mounted on the side of the boot, located on the upper half and on the pivoting ankle to improve traction and grip on the bike.
