Wey, Hahn Grab Glen Helen RC Hard Charger Awards

Wey and Hahn Co-Recipients of RC Hard Charger Award at Glen Helen

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (May 29, 2009) - MX Sports Pro Racing announced the first recipients of the Ricky Carmichael Hard-Charger Award, which is handed out at each round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The series opened last Saturday afternoon at Glen Helen Raceway, with fantastic racing in both the 450 and the 250 classes.

The RC Hard Charger goes to the rider (or in this case riders) who passes the most competitors in any given championship moto. It is named in honor of Ricky Carmichael, the 10-time AMA Motocross Champion who was known for his never-surrender approach to the craft of racing.

In the first 450 moto, veteran Nick Wey, riding for the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing Yamaha team, had problems off the start and went down. But rather than give up, the privateer hero put his head down and started working his way through the pack on the treacherous Glen Helen track. By the time the moto concluded, Wey had passed 19 riders, landing in 20th position, which was good for one hard-earned championship point, as well as the RC Hard Charger Award.

In the 250 class, Muscle Milk/MDK KTM rider Will Hahn had some problems of his own off the start in his second moto. Like Wey, Hahn put the mistake behind him and did his best to salvage as many championship points as possible. He too passed 19 other competitors on his way to an 18th place moto finish. Added with his 11th place result the first time out, Hahn's efforts were good for 13th overall at Glen Helen. He also earned co-honors for the RC Hard-Charger Award with Wey. Each will be presented with a special award at the riders' meeting Saturday morning at the second round of the series, the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, Calif.

You can watch live streaming video of the first motos at Saturday's Hangtown Motocross Classic on www.allisports.com, beginning at 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EST). Additionally, the first live telecast of the second 450 moto will air on SPEED beginning at 9 p.m. EST. Check your local listings for the time and channel.
