WMA Finale Featured On Sunday

Dramatic Racing In Store for Fans

Bend, OR (August 17, 2007) –The finale of the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship presented by Kawasaki will take place at Steel City Raceway, Delmont, PA with a new time slot. Both WMA pro motos will be featured in the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship schedule on Sunday, August 26th. Honda /Bad Girl Energy Drink/ Fox Racing’s Jessica Patterson will be going for her fifth WMA Championship, while Ashley Fiolek will be making her highly anticipated WMA Pro racing debut.

The new Sunday schedule will showcase WMA racing to the fantastic Steel City crowd and the final round drama should provide even greater excitement for the fans. Patterson has been dominant this season but her top competitor Etnies/Answer/Yamaha’s Tarah Gieger is fresh off a Loretta Lynn’s win and is hungry for another WMA overall of this season (Gieger won Thunder Valley).  Geiger (207 points) is 16 points behind Patterson (223 points) in the championship and still has the number one plate in her sights.  Patterson’s other main challengers this year have been Team Green Kawasaki/Thor’s Tania Satchwell and Toyota/Girlz/Yamaha rider Alisa Nix. Satchwell is not only gunning for first place but she is locked in a three way battle for third in the championship (165 points) with Fox Racing’s Mariana Balbi (166 points) and Team Green Kawasaki/MSR rider Elizabeth Bash (168 points). Nix dislocated her shoulder at Thunder Valley and it is still questionable whether she we will be able to race at Steel City. Never to be counted out is the accomplished WMA racer Sarah Whitmore (Yamaha/Motoworld.com/Girlyz), who would also looking to end the season on a high note as she did at Steel City in 2006 by taking the overall.

However, the real wildcard in the WMA race at Steel City is the 16-year-old racer from St. Augustine, Florida, Ashely Fiolek (#67). The Honda/Alpinestars/Red Bull/Oakley rider will be racing her first WMA Pro National and industry observers say Fiolek has the speed to match Patterson and Gieger. Fiolek, riding a CR125 will be on the only two-stroke in the class.

The WMA Pro racing schedule is:
Saturday, August 25th
12:30pm WMA Autograph Session
5:15pm WMA Practice

Sunday, August 26th
8:30am WMA Moto One
11:30am WMA Autograph Session
