The 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season is officially in the books, and as the dust settled on Saturday night Thor riders captured two-thirds of the season championships. Courtesy of Frank Hoppen The headliner of the evening was Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, Ryan Villopoto. Villopoto came into the final round in Las Vegas with a nine-point cushion, which was more than enough for the veteran Thor rider on Saturday evening. Villopoto pieced together a perfect blend of patience, speed, and positioning to collect his first Supercross class championship. Courtesy of Frank Hoppen At the young age of twenty-two, Villopoto has just started to hit his stride and will no doubt continue to be a title contender for many years to come. Congratulations, Ryan! Courtesy of Frank Hoppen If one championship wasn’t enough, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider, Broc Tickle, delivered a second championship for Thor in the Lites West class. Much like his body of work from the 2011 season, Tickle put together a strong and consistent ride. He remained on the heels of his competitors throughout the Main Event until making multiple passes with only a few laps remaining. Courtesy of Frank Hoppen Tickle’s second place finish was more than enough to secure the Lites West championship, the first of his career. Congratulations, Broc! Courtesy of Frank Hoppen Both riders will have a week to enjoy the championship glory, and then will look to get back to their winning ways when the 2011 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship gets underway in Sacramento, Calif. for the Hangtown Motocross Classic on May 21st. | |||
