Trifecta Bonus Program Offers Riders a Chance $250,000 at Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open

AURORA, Ill. (September 18, 2008) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open announced today that the Trifecta bonus program will once again be implemented at the two-night race inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena October 10-12.

Built into this year's Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open format will be the third consecutive year of the three-part, Trifecta bonus program that will pay additional money to the fastest qualifier for each night's race, a bonus to each night's holeshot winner and a bonus for any rider that can complete the Trifecta challenge by being the fastest qualifier, getting the holeshot and winning the main event in both nights.

In addition to the $100,000 winner’s purse, any rider that wins the Trifecta will earn an additional $50,000 bonus each night, and any rider that can "Double Down" and hit the Trifecta both nights will walk away with $250,000 for the weekend.

Since being introduced to the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open in 2006, no rider has won the $250,000 paycheck for winning the two-night Trifecta. In 2006 James Stewart made it halfway to the $250,000 by winning the fastest qualifier, holeshot and the main event on the opening night. On the second night, he bobbled in the qualifier and ruined all hopes of winning the $250,000 Trifecta payout.

Last year, Chad Reed won all three elements of the Trifecta on the opening night, placing him in position on night two to become the first-ever Trifecta winner. After winning the superpole on Saturday night by being the fastest qualifier, he crashed in a first-turn pileup of the main event. This allowed Honda’s Jake Weimer to win the holeshot and ended Reed’s shot at the big payday.

"We introduced the Trifecta bonus program two years ago, and we’ve had two of the top riders, James Stewart and Chad Reed, come pretty close to walking away with $250,000,” said Dave Prater, director of supercross, Feld Entertainment Motor Sports. “This year’s starting gate is as stacked as ever, so someone is going to have to bring their ‘A game’ to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in October to have a shot at the $250,000 payout.”
