Press Release

Tony Cairoli and Sidi Sport World Champions in MX1

September 1st, 2009 – Sunday August 30th, the end of the Holland GP saw Tony Cairoli crowned as the motocross World Champion in the MX1 category. The ace from the Sidi Sport stables sealed his place in the first rank of the major league with one race left in the series, confirming himself once again as the strongest in his class…even with pain in his left knee that was bothering him. Cairoli needed only a 5th and 4th place in the two heats of the competition that was won by Belgian Ken de Dijcker, coming in 6th place overall to give him the 5 points he needed for certain mathematical triumph. With 50 points’ advantage and just one race to go in the season, the new World title holder can no longer be reached in the standings by his closest adversaries.

This is Cairoli’s third championship title after his victories in MX2 in 2005 and 2007. At the tender age of 23, the phenomenon from Patti in Messina province already has an impressive record worthy of any motocross great. The mathematical certainty of victory comes towards the end of an extraordinary season for the super strong rider from Messina, riding as an undisputed star with his inseparable Sidi Crossfire boots, faithful companions on his long wake of memorable victories.

On behalf of all the Sidi staff, we send an enormous thank you to World Champion Toni Cairoli for the joy and excitement we shared during this long and unforgettable season.
