Tomac Takes Second at Unadilla

Torrance, CA: This past Saturday, Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, NY, hosted round 10 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The Muscle Milk- sponsored GEICO Honda team had an impressive showing with four of their five riders placing in the top 10 and Eli Tomac grabbing his sixth moto win of the season for second overall.

The Race

In the 450 class, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Brayton rode his way to 12th overall with 15-10 scores. After qualifying 18th in practice, Brayton got less-than-desirable starts in both races, forcing him to work his way through the field.

In the 250 class, Muscle Milk-sponsored GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia had a tough first moto but bounced back in the final race of the day to finish 1-2. Barcia led initially until Tomac got past, and then set incredible lap times the remainder of the 30-minute-plus-two-lap race to wrap up his sixth moto win of the season for second overall. Barcia finished fourth overall with 7-2 scores.

“It was a tough first race for me,” stated Tomac. “I didn’t get the greatest start and kept making mistakes so I ended up in sixth. This is probably the most technical track so far in the series so it was really crucial to stay consistent and find the good lines, which is what I focused on in the second race. I got off to a much better start and after getting around Justin I just focused on riding a smooth race.”

“This is my home race so I love coming here and the fans are really great,” said Barcia. “Other then that though it was a pretty tough day for me. I crashed three times in the first race and after grabbing the holeshot and leading in moto two I made another mistake, letting Eli (Tomac) by me. I’m going to work really hard over the break and head to Steel City strong.”

Justin Bogle logged his best finish of the season in placing sixth overall with 11-4 scores. In moto one, Bogle was running up front with the leaders until getting tangled with a lapper, which caused him to go down. In the second race he rode a solid race all the way to the checkered flag for fourth. Wil Hahn placed seventh overall with 9-8 finishes and Zach Bell had another impressive showing in moto one, grabbing the holeshot and taking the early lead. He crashed but was able to recover and finish eighth.
