The New MX3 and EMX2 Season is Here

HAWKSTONE PARK (Great Britain), 9 April 2009 – Great Britain will host the first event for the FIM MX3 World Championship and EMX2 European Championship 2009. Hawkstone Park, which is located between Birmingham and Manchester will host the MX3 World Championship for the first time.

The season of the MX3 and EMX2 will starts this weekend

ABOUT THE HAWKSTONE PARK

Hawkstone Park is the hotel set in historic parkland in the Shropshire. Today the park consists of 100 acres (40 hectares) of follies and landscaped parkland grounds and rocky outcrops, based around the authentic Norman castle of Red Castle. Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies is a unique place. It was established by Richard Hill of Hawkstone (1655-1727), also known as 'The Great Hill', whilst the follies, estate and reputation were mainly established by his nephew and heir Sir Rowland Hill, 1st Baronet Hill of Hawkstone (1705-1783) and Sir Richard Hill, 2nd Baronet Hill of Hawkstone (1733-1808) in the 18th century.

Hawkstone is currently combined with an adjacent hotel (formerly a lodge of the hall), golf course, and motocross track. Hawkstone Hall, nearby, is a Catholic retreat, open to the public.

HAWKSTONE PARK HISTORY

It will be the first time that Hawkstone Park will host the MX3 World Championship event. But the place has very rich history. Hawkstone Park hosted half a dozen dramatic 250 GPs in the 1970 and 1980s, two 125 GP’s in 1976 and 1989 and, more recently, ha concentrated on an outstanding early-season international established in 1999. Motorcycles events in Hawkstone Park started already in 1947.

The organizer of the event is local club Salop Moto Club. Mr. Dave Williams, the chairman of the club and clerk of the course said: “There were about 500 GP’s in the history. Each year we have a special event Hawkstone International, that is actually the largest international in Europe. All the top riders came here, Kevin Strijbos, Steve Ramon, Stefan Everts, Jorges Jobe, Joel Smets and many others. It is always a favourite track for the riders because of the ground and preparation. We also host the British Championship each year and some other events during the year. The track has being prepared since October last year. Only a few modifications have being made for this MX3 and EMX2 event. There have been working about 100 people to prepare everything for the event. I think the track is one of the most famous tracks in the world.”

2008 MX3 World Champion Sven Breugelmans

ABOUT THE OPENING EVENT 2009

It will be the first MX3 World Championship and EMX2 European Championship event 2009. All together there will be 15 events in this season. In the MX3 World Championship there will compete also the 2008 World Champion Sven Breugelmans, while the EMX2 European Champion Valentin Teillet moved to the MX2 GP after his successful season.

It seems that the rivalry will be even stronger as it was last year. Sven Breugelmans (KTM), who will defend his World Title will have many strong rivals; Christophe Martin and Alex Salvini (Husqvarna), Antti Pyrhonen (Honda), Alvaro Lozano (Yamaha) and also some home riders: Brad Anderson, Jamie Law, Jordan Rose, Luke Mellows, … In the EMX2 European Championship there will be many new riders, including two big names from the last season – the EMX2 Junior European Champion Kristjan Ratsep from Estonia and EMX-85 European Champion Jeffrey Herlings from Netherlands.

SPECIAL PROGRAMME

The organizer will offer special Easter weekend’s three-day programme – The Handlebar Festival, which will start on Friday 10th April at Hawkstone Park. It is set to be a scorcher with plenty of handlebar-related, high-adrenaline action and lots to see for all of the family. The programme includes mountain bike, quad and trial demonstrations.
