The Legends & Heroes of Motocross Tour to Honor Multi-National Champion,

Doug Henry at Southwick!

Doug HenryMerced, Calif. ~ August 24, 2011:  Three time motocross champion,

Doug Henry, will be honored at this year’s Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Southwick on Saturday, August 27, 2011.

Doug Henry is a fan-favorite in the sport for his guts and
determination, as well as his never-say-die attitude while making
comebacks after comebacks.  He had his first major success in 1993 as a
member of Team Honda, where he claimed the 125 East Supercross and the
125 National Championship.   In 1994, he repeated as champion in the
nationals, beating riders such as Steve Lamson and Ryan Hughes.  He
later appeared on Fox's first motocross movie Terrafirma.  Doug moved to
the premier 250cc division for 1995, where he was immediately
competitive, winning Supercross mains and Outdoor overalls.

For 1997, Yamaha approached Henry with the idea of riding their
prototype YZM400 four-stroke in competition.  Henry raced the bike at
the final Supercross in Las Vegas, Nevada, and won the race in the
prototype bike's first and only start that year making 4-Stroke history.

Alex Moroz, general managing partner of the Legends &Heroes Tour,
states “Doug is just one of those good guys who came up the ranks from
the east coast and dominated American Motocross.  His accomplishments
were epic including four national titles and pioneering the 4 stroke era
with his impressive win at the Vegas Supercross in 1997.  In 1998, Doug
came back and elevated the “400 Stroker” to its first national title
making history for Yamaha and the Moto community”.

Tom White, curator of the Early years of Motocross Museum, comments “
Imagine!  You are at the peak of your career, riding for one of the big 4
factories; and your boss asks you to ride a "trailbike!"  Well,
actually a Prototype Factory Works 4-stroke motocross bike!  Yet, you
knew that a 4-stroke motorcycle had not been competitive for almost 25
years.  Would you sign on?  Well, Doug Henry did.........and not only in
his first Supercross Race - Las Vegas - May 1997 did he win, but he
came back on a "production" version in 1998 to win the AMA 250cc
National Championship!  Guess that would make him and Icon and Legend!
This huge accomplishment would just be the beginning of his climb to
Hero!"

Doug Henry will be at the Legends & Heroes Moto Museum at Southwick
this Saturday from 11:00am to 12:00pm for a meet and greet with the
fans.

Congrats Doug, for a job well done!
