SAINT JEAN D’ANGELY (France), 18 September 2011 – Before the main event of the 65th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nation started, Youthstream President Mr. Giuseppe Luongo announced that the FIM MX1/2 World Championship will have a Grand Prix in Thailand in 2013. Yesterday Mr. Luongo signed a contract with the president of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of Thailand Mr. Thongchai Wongsawan, who is supported by Mr. Jan Postema, to celebrate the FIM MX1/MX2 World Championship in Thailand from 2013 until 2015. The Grand Prix is scheduled to be at the beginning of the season in order facilitate the journey to everybody and let people spend some days in Thailand. Mr. Thongchai Wongsawan expressed his gratitude towards Youthstream and the FIM to have trusted Thailand to organize the FIM MX1/2 World Championships. Mr. Wongsawan is willing to start working in this new project and he will make sure it is ready for 2013. Jan Postema from the JP Motocross school has ben working with Mr. Wongsawan for several years and he explained: “Thailand is a very big country and this is a very good possibility for us all to make Motocross even more international. People in Asia and especially in Thailand are very pleasant people and very motivated, so I am sure that we will have a great event there.” FIM/CMS Director Dr. Wolfgang Srb added: “This is part of our long term strategy in the FIM to go with the GP more outside Europe, especially to those regions which are growing really fast like Asia, so congratulations to all of those who have made this deal possible.” FIM Deputy President Mr. Jorge Viegas also added: “I cannot be more happy to see that Motocross is overcoming all the structural and financial problems we are facing and a clear example is the incredible crowd here in Saint Jean d’Angely. I have been in several Nations and I have rarely seen so many happy people and such good organization, so it gives me a lot of hope that in the future we can go to other places, because motocross and motorcycling is not only Europe - although it is the engine. We must go overseas, as Youthstream has done in the recent past going to South America, Asia and Africa. We know which countries are growing and this countries will have for sure a demand for Motocross because it is a very attractive product.” LINKS Youthstream FIM |
