Team South Africa Announced for 2008 Motocross of Nations

Motorsport South Africa (MSA) has announced the official South African MX team that will take part in the 61st edition of the Motocross of Nations to be held in Budds Creek, Maryland on the 22-23 September.  Grant Langston,  Tyla Rattray and Gareth Swanepoel will make up the competitive 3 man team with multiple MX world champion and 250 AMA National champ Greg Albertyn spearheading the trio as team Manager.

“The MXON is traditionally one of the greatest motor sport events on the calendar and being held in the USA this year gives it that extra allure.” commented Albertyn. “Team South Africa realistically has a shot at the podium with great riders like Grant,  Tyla and Gareth and who knows, we may even be able to de-throne TEAM USA on home ground if a little luck comes our way.  We will also be announcing a new Team title sponsor shortly.”

Grant Langston, a former 125 MX World champion, 125 AMA MX and SX national champion, will represent the team in the MX1 class aboard a Factory Yamaha.  Tyla Rattray of the REDBULL KTM squad has posted consistent podiums in the MX2 class in  Europe and will represent SA in the MX2 category where he will go head to head with Ben Townley, Ryan Villopoto and Antonio Cairoli.   Although Gareth Swanepoel  contests the MX2 world championships, with a podium finish at the opening round in Valkenswaard , he is also an experienced 450cc rider and will round off the team in the Open class aboard his Molson Kawasaki.

Team South Africa has a dedicated website www.samxon.co.za  where fans can check out rider profiles,  link to event information, donate funds to the team and the possibility to purchase team merchandise.
