Team San Manuel's Chad Reed Takes Second At Second Stop Of Monster Energy Supercross Series

Round 2 - Phoenix, Chase Field - January 12th, 2008

Los Angeles, CA - January 13th, 2008 - Team San Manuel showed up at press day for the second round of the Supercross Series in Phoenix, Arizona, ready to get a little extra track time and speak with the media. Reed, who picked up his 27th AMA Supercross class win last weekend when he won the season opener, looked very comfortable and confident on the bike he worked so hard to dial in for the 2008 season. Nathan Ramsey, who won in Phoenix in 1999, was ready to build off of his 11th-place finish last weekend at the Anaheim-1 Supercross opener.

Reed's attitude after winning the opener hasn't changed in a week's time, “I'm riding to win,” said Reed. With the fastest qualifying time and series points lead, Reed had first pick on the gate for Heat #1 and dominated the first heat race. The win put him into the Main Event along side teammate Nathan Ramsey who also transferred directly to the main via a strong sixth place finish in Heat #1.

In the Main Event, Reed came out of the gate gunning for another win only to find himself looking at the tail pipe of rival James Stewart. With less than one-second separating the pair the battle was on. Reed consistently attacked and often cut faster lap times, but was unable to take over the lead. Meanwhile, Ramsey was making his way forward from a bad start and moved into eighth place by the seventh lap of the 20 lap Main Event.

Reed continued his attack and by the 1/2-way point he and Stewart had gapped third place by more then 20 seconds and lapped most of the field. A bobble, while attempting to take over the lead, dropped Reed back by more then two seconds, ground which would be hard to make up. Ramsey continued his strong efforts and moved up to seventh place by lap 12.

Reed charged for the lead again and in the end took a well-earned second place, still maintaining the series points lead for the Monster Energy Supercross Championship title. Ramsey came through by improving on his last race, with an impressive seventh place finish, which moved him up to seventh in the series points chase.
