Team San Manuel Yamaha's Chad Reed Sweeps California

Round 6 – San Diego, CA – Qualcomm Stadium – February 9th

ANAHEIM, CA (February 10, 2008) - Chad Reed won yet again, this time at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium at round six of the 2008 AMA Supercross Series. But it was far from a run-away victory for the Team San Manuel rider. This San Diego race, before a crowd of 64,251, was host to one of the most exciting Supercross class battles to date.

Reed began the night by setting the fastest qualifying time with a 50.508 lap on the tough, sandy, San Diego track.  San Manuel team-mate Nathan Ramsey also qualified in the top ten, with a 52.631lap landing him ninth fastest for the day.

Reed played it smart in the second heat race of the night, as he battled series rival Kevin Windham for the heat win. But, “heat races aren’t main events,” so Reed settled into second place and took the easy transfer spot. Meanwhile, Ramsey was battling gremlins in the heat race, but was able to sort them out for the LCQ, where his second place finish put him into the main.

In the main event, Reed got a good start and found himself comfortably in second place. The veteran followed leader Davi Milsaps for two laps, and then pounced to take over the lead on lap three.  It looked like it would be another run-a-way victory for Reed as he led unchallenged for the lead until the 12th lap of the 20 lap main.  Reed fell in a sandy turn after the finish line jump, and Milsaps was able to take the lead once again.

Reed put the hammer down and attacked the rough track closing the gap on Milsaps and retaking the lead on lap 17, the same turn where he had fallen. Reed made no more mistakes and took the checkered flag for his fifth win in the six races run so far this season. With this victory Reed extends his points lead to 147, 35-points and more then a full race over his nearest rival for the title.

Ramsey had a heroic night himself, after getting the last gate pick for the main, Nate got a mid-pack start and immediately started battling his way forward. With his eye on another top 10 finish, Ramsey fought his way into 11th, and then 10th.  Soon he was up to 8th, but traffic and the tough San Diego track slowed his progress. In a fierce four-man battled Nate dropped back to 12th and then charged up again to finish with a well-earned 8th place at the checkered flag.  The strong finish also upped Ramsey in the points, moving him up to 6th in the Supercross standings. “It was a good night,” said Ramsey. “I had some trouble in my heat and had to get to the main through the LCQ. I felt really strong out there, if I could’ve gotten a better start I’m sure I would’ve been in the top five. I feel confident as we head east that I’ll keep moving up as the series goes on. The San Manuel Team has been great and they make it easy to push myself harder every week. I’m going to get into the top five and then up on the podium.” Ramsey has climbed up the point’s ladder all season; he began in 11th for the series, has steadily moved up and now sits in 6th in the standings with 70 points.

So far this season Chad Reed has won five of six Supercross main events, won the Anaheim Triple Crown, won every race in California, leads the points chase for the Championship, and achieved his 31st career victory. "I am so happy to get this win," said Reed. "I have never won all of the races in California, and with this win tonight, I accomplished a new goal. I get to leave the west coast with a big points lead."

The AMA Supercross series now heads east with Round 7 taking place at Houston’s Reliant Stadium on Feburary 16th.
