Press Release

Support the Texas National - Freestone County Raceway - June 6th

Hello everyone... Racers, Riders and Dirtbike Enthusiasts

Shand Garcia here with "BERM - The Texas Motocross Chronicles" and Holeshot Magazine. On June 6th, all of you have an opportunity to watch an AMA Outdoor Motocross National right here in our great state of Texas (I view it more of a Good-Will Duty). I hope that each and every one of you reading this will make plans to head to Freestone County Raceway on the weekend of June 5-7. For many of you, you will no doubt remember the drought that we Texan's had for 19 Years without a Motocross National here in Texas. Putting it in "Matter of Fact" terms, it was a pure shame that for those 19 years, we had to drive as far as Millville, MN and Troy, OH, for the closest AMA Outdoor Nationals, to see the highest level of our sport at the grassroots backyard level, that each and everyone of us can all actually participate in... Motocross (Supercross is out for most of us... hahaha!). Before the 19 year drought, and stretching from the early 1970's until 1988, Texas hosted AMA Outdoor National's at Rio Bravo MX Park in Houston, Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch in Whitney, CycleRama and Good Times Cycle Park both in San Antonio. As well as, Trans AMA's and Inter Am's at Cyclesports Park in Conroe, and Rabbit Run MX Park in Dallas.

The mere fact is that Texas is the second largest motocross and dirtbike market in the nation, with the abundance of riders, dealerships, and tracks..........yet from 1989 until 2007, there were NO... AMA Outdoor Motocross National's held for us fans here in Texas. While other states...where AMA Outdoor Motocross National's were held, the fans, riders, racers and even other track promoters continually jumped in to support their treasured National in their own backyard year after year, and continue to do so.

While some of you are new to the sport, and may not remember the 19 Drought Years, or, the Glory Years of Texas hosting Nationals leading up to 1988, rest assured, NOW....we have a good thing going right here in our very own backyard THANKS to Tony Miller and Freestone County Raceway. In 2007 Tony Miller brought back AMA Outdoor Motocross to Texas for us..... the FANS of Texas Motocross. Tony Miller could be retired on a beach somewhere, but he wanted to see AMA Pro Motocross return to Texas for the sake of Texas motocross (the second largest MX market in the country) and us Lone Star motocross'ers.

In just a few short weeks, on June 6th, Texas plays host to the 3rd round of the AMA Outdoor Motocross Nationals. Only the third visit since 1988. I hope that all of you Racers, Riders, Dirtbike Enthusiast and Track Promoters will attend, and support this Greatest motocross event of the year held in your own backyard! You all love the sport obviously, and you can go ride year round here in Texas, anywhere you want.......So, how about taking the weekend of Saturday June 6th, and lining the fence to help support the re-birth of a Texas tradition!

The event will offer 3 days of racing Fri-Sun with the Pros racing on Saturday.... check out www.Freestonemx.com for details.

Don't forget.....for 19 years.... we were mad, we whined, we fussed, and ultimately felt CHEATED that we did not have an Outdoor National in Texas (yes you remember that feeling)....now we have something back here where it belongs, and everyone of us needs to embrace and Support the Texas National!
