Strong Performance by Nicoletti Leads the Pirelli Riders at Glen Helen

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (May 28, 2016) – The second round of the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship kicked off Saturday with the FMF Glen Helen National in Southern California. Fans were greeted with beautiful 80-degree weather that featured plenty of intense, bar-banging action throughout the day, with the world-famous Glen Helen circuit challenging the physical conditioning of the sport’s brightest stars. Pirelli’s all-new SCORPION™ MX32™ PRO tire in 120/80-19 and 110/90-19 sizing provided performance advantages that racers raved about.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Phil Nicoletti nailed consistent top-10 starts to lead the way for Pirelli-supported riders on the day. The New York native battled hard against the star-studded field in Moto 1 to record a solid 10th place. He capped off his day with ninth in Moto 2, resulting in his second top-10 overall finish of the season.

After being hindered by mistakes at last weekend’s season opener in Hangtown, BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Justin Brayton rebounded with an impressive performance that witnessed him fighting for position just outside of the top-10. He crossed the line to score 11th place in the opening race. In the second race, he nearly pulled the holeshot against the 40-rider field and finished 12th en route to 11th place overall.

Justin Barcia is notorious for his strong starts, leaving many to believe the longest start of the championship would work to the JGRMX rider’s advantage. The No.51’s SCORPION™ MX tires put the power to the ground as he found himself near the front in Moto 1, however, misfortune struck and forced him to retire from the race early. He returned for redemption in the second moto and raced to a solid eighth place for 14th overall.

In just his second race back since injury, Andrew Short logged consistent laps throughout the entire day to keep himself in the mix. “Shorty” wrapped up the day with 14-15 moto scores as he rounded out the top-15 overall.

Rookie sensation Benny Bloss continues his string of impressive rides to start the Pro Motocross Championship. The tallest rider on the track relied on his lanky build to carry momentum down the braking bumps formed on Southern California’s steep hills. Despite starting outside of the top-20 in the first moto, he charged through the field to finish 13th. The Missourian backed up his first moto score with a hard-fought 16th in moto two. He would finish 16th overall.

Next weekend the third round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is set to take place on June 4 at the scenic Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado.
