Stewart Set to Defend Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP Title

AURORA, Ill. (November 22, 2006) – In his final week of preparation reigning Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP champion James Stewart is set to defend his title in 2006-’07 when the season kicks off next week at Toronto’s Rogers Centre (Dec 2.) and Vancouver’s B.C. Place Stadium (Dec. 9) before heading to the U.S. for the remaining 14 races.

At the young age of 20, Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., captured his first Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP championship. En route to the title, he earned 10 main event victories and five additional podium appearances.

With Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael, who holds 15 AMA National championships, racing an abbreviated schedule in 2006-’07, Stewart looks forward to challenging the elder statesmen. Last year an epic race ensued between the two at Toronto, and Stewart, who swept both Canadian races last season, came away with the early season momentum.

“I enjoy racing Ricky every time I race him,” said Stewart. “I hear he’s going to be racing in Canada so we’ll get to have fun there but there’s not more pressure on me to go out there and do anything different from what I normally do.”

Stewart began racing professionally in 2002, and owns AMA Supercross Lites championships in the Eastern and Western Regions as well as the 2004 AMA Motocross Lites championship.
